I need help with my list! Reaches and Matches?

@prezbucky thanks for the reply! I am typically looking to stay in the southeastern region, but i didn’t want to completely rule out schools like swarthmore and Penn simply because of location lol. I’ll be sure to read up on the various factors of each school before I make decisions :). Thanks again

You’re a strong candidate and you are likely to get into many of these schools. I would suggest you try to figure out if you are good with a big-campus, big-school environment (then I would endorse UGA-Honors and Alabama-Honors; I think these are excellent Honors programs and are fantastic deals). If you want to be closer to a city then Hopkins, Penn, Miami would be more in line with what you are looking for, and then I’d suggest you look at Pittsburgh too. And Barnard if you are really excited at the prospect of NYC… lots of smart women who want to go into the sciences. I agree that the Ivies, if they accept you, will provide the dollars. If a strong, thriving African American student community is important to you then by all means check that out carefully-- talk to current students and alumni.

@mayorshinn thanks for the reply! I’m not that fond of being in the city, but being near it would be okay.

I wouldn’t recommend High Point… not serious academically, doesn’t meet need for middle income families - pretty much for rich kids who feel they’re too good for a UNC system university / couldn’t get into Chapel Hill or NCSU (and sometimes UNC W, App State, or UNC A.)
For another safety, look at Eckerd or Hendrix. Seconding Rhodes, Barnard. Mount Holyoke would be a match.
You could be a contender for Wilson Scholars at Appalachian State (a teacher must recommend you by Oct 15 I think).

Thanks for all the reply telling me about high point! [-X
