I need help

I know these schools are all very different, but i need help deciding which would be the best fit for me. A good friend of mine got accepted ed to oberlin and he says its a really good school for me. But so are these other schools. I dont care much for sports, i like music, academics are by far the most important factor to me when considering a school, and i want to go to school that will get me into a gud grad school/job. Thanks

What schools are you considering? What are your interests? how old are you? Have you visited them? I suggest you do that. It makes a difference…

Based on previous posts, it looks like the school’s she’s talking about are Boston College, Tufts, Barnard and Oberlin.

Right off the bat, I think a HUGE difference is gonna be environment. Urban New York is a VERY different setting than Ohio’s rural Oberlin, which are both very different than Medford and Boston

you will get yourself into a good grad school. As for jobs I don’t know, maybe ask at each career center for a list of companies who interviewed on campus last year.

Assuming that turns out to be a wash as well, you’re left with which environment
do you thnk you’d prefer over the next 4 years.

I chose Barnard over Oberlin (even though I had money at Oberlin). A big part of why I chose Barnard is the location – I’m a serious jazz musician, so I felt that, while it would be wonderful to be able to take classes at Oberlin Conservatory, it would be more worth it to be in NYC.

One of the main differences aside from location, I’d say, is the student bodies. Barnard girls are very passionate and motivated, but not nearly as quirky as Oberlin students. Also, I have the sense that Oberlin has a much stronger community, college-y feel than Barnard does. However, it is far more isolated than Barnard, so there may be less to do. The schools are so different, though, that you really have to visit both to get a good sense of which is right for you.

As for Tufts/BC, I live outside of Boston (actually in the same town as BC) so I can give you my outsider’s perspective…BC is very conservative (I know many liberal students there, but they feel pretty overwhelmed by the conservative politics of the rest of the student body), sporty, and more preppy. It has a beautiful campus and is in a great location (if I do say so myself). Tufts…really hard to pinpoint. More artsy than BC, but less quirky than Oberlin…?
