I need safeties/matches...

Given your name (IhateCA), I think we're all wondering why UC Davis is still hanging around.
Looks like a great list, but I'm guessing Swarthmore, Brown, and BC should be moved up a level, and Maryland and Chicago should be moved down a level. Do I hear an Amen?

Super Reach
-PENN Wharton
-Columbia
-Northwestern University
-Brown
-Swarthmore College

Reach:
-University of Chicago
-Washington University in St. Louis
-Georgetown University/McDonough
-Carnegie Mellon/Tepper
-NYU Stern ED
-University of Michigan/Ross
-UVA/McIntire

Match/lower reach:
-University of Notre Dame
-American University
-Boston College

Safe Match/Safety:
-Boston University
-George Washington University
-UC Davis
-Catholic University

Safety:
-University of Maryland
-Arizona State University/Business
-Bentley College
-Babson College
-Northeastern University

UC Davis is still hanging around because it's probably the only place on my list that I can afford if I get no aid...since everywhere else I get out of state tuition or it's private.

You do not need 5 safeties. The reason a safety is a safety is because you are about guaranteed to get in.

Cut down the Safeties to just the business ones you actually care to go to; which are Bentley and Babson.

Get rid of UMD/Arizona/Northeastern.

Also, get rid of some of your safe matches. GWU is expensive and does not have a reputable business program. Also get rid of catholic university (you don't wanna spend your 4 best years there, trust me). Take out American University (just another version of GWU).

BUMP

Thanks.
I like having options, so they'll stick around (but come elimination time, I'll keep that in mind.). But I'm going to dump Catholic U and ASU.

Ok, looks complete. Now it's time to start narrowing the field to those you want to apply to. There seems to be 2 schools of thought on this: (1) apply to a slew of schools and make visits only after you find out where you got accepted; and (2) Visit a bunch of them before you apply, so you don't waste an ap on a place you really wouldn't consider going to.

If you take (1), then eliminate American, Carnegie Mellon, Washington, and Swarthmore (why study for all those years and end up at a college your Uncle Morrie has never heard of, when there are so many others he HAS heard of?), if you take (2) you should visit as many as possible as soon as possible to eliminate those you don't have a good vibe with, and apply to the rest. Read the cautionary tales in the Parents' section of this site about sloppy choice of safeties (or not choosing a safety at all). Choose your safeties well, as you might be wearing one of their sweatshirts for the rest of your life. As might all of your (legacy) children.

^^ The Op wants to do business. WUSTL's avg startin business sarlary is in the 40'sk. CMU's is 55k.. I would recommend you drop any non-top 5 B-schools.

Again, check the cautionary tales on the parents' section. There's a great thread about a brilliant kid who applied to the usual suspects (HYP Penn, etc) and the worst college he applied to was Oberlin. Poor guy didn't get in anywhere due to the usual he-ain't-coming-here goofing by the adcoms. So before u drop any "non-top-5 biz schools," make sure there's one that's just fine that is an ironclad LOCK (I always think just about everybody's ironclad lock safety should be 5-star Wisconsin-Madison).

Well he does have Bentley/Babson/etc.

narrow that down to 12-15...21 is too much.

All 4 safeties look fine to me. But AccptedAlready recommended dumping any non-top-5 biz schools. That's what I was reacting to.
