I need some advice!

Ok i'm sort of in a dilemma.

I want to look at some colleges this summer.

Some of my dream schools would be American University, Syracuse University, and Ithaca University.

Most of those schools are pretty expensive.

I live In PA and my parents cant afford to help me out at all, (theres 6 kids in my family and only my dad works.)

They keep telling me to stay instate and go to PSU, or Pitt.

I want to major in Business and minor or double major in Communicatons or Theatre.

Since I'm on my own would it be wise to stay instate because of the costs, or go to my dream schools out of state, with a ton of debt.

I would appreciate some advice, Thanks!

CMU has theatre and I'm sure they have communications and business. You'd be in-state for that.

CMU is a great school. The only thing is i dont think my stats are that great to get in. It's a very selective.

It all comes down to what you want to do - the right answer isn't the same for everyone.

One thing to consider though, is whether or not you're going to want to pursue your business degree to the graduate level. If so, it may be in your best interests to save as much money as possible during the undergrad years.

Don't limit yourself now though. Apply everywhere. You never know. One of those dream schools might surprise you with a great financial aid package.

Just for the record, CMU is a private school and costs the same whether you are in state or out of state.

I would agree with above. It doesn't really hurt you to apply to your dream schools as long as you also apply to some state schools as well. If you are the oldest of the 6 or if you have siblings in college and there is only one income, it is highly likely that you will qualify for a reasonable amount of financial aid.

Most schools do offer financial aid so apply anyways and see if their package is good enough. And there's always scholarships!
