Hi. I am a sophomore. Recently I have been applying to a lot of college info sites. They arent sites exactly, you just get put in a mailing list and colleges sent you recruitment emails and stuff. Nothing special. I kinda regretted it as i was getting spammed with lots of random ones, but then one caught my eye. "Start college after 10th grade" It was am email from Bard College at Simon's Rock. I researched it and it was an early college. It is SUPER expensive, and since it is across the country, I would have to add transportation fees. I know my parents would never agree to it, but I do want to tell them about it and see. It is about 50k per year. My family is financially stable, but 50,000 is a LOT of money. Here is a website btw. Home — Bard College at Simon's Rock - The Early College

Basically, most people start after sophomore or junior year and if you attend 2 years you can get an AA and if you attend 4 then you can get a BA. After that, most students transfer to another university and continue in graduate studies or something.

It seems interesting. I really like this path, I would love to attend 2 years and transfer. I checked college board and it isn't very hard to get accepted which i don't really like. I don't know if it is a smart choice or just something for rich families. Has anyone heard of them?

If you want some background info. Im a proficient student, i get A's and B's. The thing is, I'm getting tired of high school. I am looking for a place where i can choose to do what I want. Take the classes I am interested in and be independent.

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place, I don't post much... XD
Thanks in advance!

I honestly think you can do much better than bards if you apply senior year… raise your uw gpa a bit and get decent test scores 2000ish…
and bards isn’t really well known. I only knew about it because, like you, i recieved something from them in the mail XD
I doubt they will be academically challenging/rigorous, and judging from the extreme tuition, it’s probably a rich person school.
anyways, if you go after soph year, you’ll be missing out on junior prom and senior ball ;D

This doesnt make any sense to me. Why is there an urgency to start college at age 15. On top of not being academically ready for college, most 15 year olds are not mature enough to leave on a college campus across the country. And it’s 50,000 dollars…
If you really want to be in a college enviroment and take college classes, then start at your local community college, maybe take some classes during the summer. Some universities offer high school students college courses during the summer where they are staying in the dorms and get the real college experience, except its cheapier and less stressful

Thanks! I really needed some perspective. I knew it was probably a huge risk. The idea just seems so different to me and I liked it. and 50,000 is even more than some private schools. ew. ^_^

SeattleBulldog is exactly right. You’re not ready academically or emotionally (probably; believe me, I wasn’t at that age) ready to go across the country to college for 50k per year. If you’re itching for college-level courses, give your local community college or state flagship summer program a shot after this year; they’re easier to get into and they cost a hell of a lot less!

Bard actually runs two high schools in NYC, called Bard High School Early College… They are NY public high schools and you get an AA upon graduating high school. They called 11th and 12th grade the cheesy names of “Year One” and “Year Two”. Most of the Bard credits do not transfer to top-tier universities and are more focused on the liberal arts, and definitely not the Ivy League.
