I am starting as a freshman Mechanical Engineer in the fall.
How much computer do I need? Prices range from ~$500 to $1,300 and up.
Listing talking points in parenthesis I am concerned about;
Screen size (15.6")
CPU (Intel® Core i7?)
RAM (8G)
SSD (64 G)
Hard Drive (1 TB)
Graphics & Video (??)
Battery Life (??)
Damage/Theft warrantee (3 years)
Hard Drive back up service/strategy

Please help me fill in the blanks!
Thanks in advance

I am starting as a freshman in materials engineering and I was thinking about the same thing. As of now, I am strongly leaning towards the new 15" Macbook Pro, which will be announced in two weeks.

That’s so funny! I asked my mom if my “going away present” could be a new laptop. So she is going to buy me a new laptop for Cal Poly in the Fall. I am an Animal Science major, I just need a decent laptop for school assignments and internet pretty much. Any ideas? I’m used to Dell laptops…

I would recommend against a mac. As much as I love them, there have far too many times in my internships or for classes when the software just doesn’t work on a mac… even with Bootcamp. Right now I am looking at Lenovos.
