I need to make a huge improvment

So I just took the ACT for the first time recently and scored an 18.... (Yes I'm stupid)

Anyways, I've taken all AP and honors classes through high school and managed about a 3.2 Unweighted GPA. Because of these low scores, I feel, I won't be able to get into any middle ranked colleges such as Michigan State, Boston University, North Eastern University, etc. I am taking the MME next week so hopefully I will improve a little by then, but my goal is to improve my composite by AT LEAST, 8-10 points. I am in Calculus BC as a junior yet I only scored a 20 on the math. Same goes for English with me being in AP Language and Composition I only scored an 18.

What I'm asking is, if I practice enough ACT practice tests for math and relearn geometry (where I messed up the most) and if I learn most of the English grammar rules will I be able to get a score of 30 for each of these sections? (Is this possible?) I will also go for a goal of about 22-23 in Reading and Science.

I have the red ACT book I have not done any practice tests from there yet and I may get a tutor (would a tutor be helpful?) but I already go to Sylvans for ACT prep which hasn't helped much.

Please someone give me some hope and something I can do in this situation, I have 5 months left until the last ACT I can take which will be in august.

here’s some hope for you!

I’m a senior in high school and i’ve taken the ACT 4 times now, and working on my 5th.
I’ve made a 23-25-25-23.
and I NEED a 26 for automatic admission at my college.
THIS IS MY VERY LAST CHANCE to make a 26 on my ACT in April or else I will not be going there :(

I’ve already hired a tutor for math and science
enrolled in a prep course
and bought the Barrons ACT book and Princeton Review book.

I’m practicing everyday and working non-stop.

I need one point, but aiming to increase to a 28 instead.

YOU CAN DO IT. But you have to give your all.
Luckily, you have a lot of time for this test.
I don’t, so be happy for your time…but use it wisely!

you can do anything you set your mind to - its cheesy as hell but it is SO true.

-from someone in the same boat as you.

I’d hate to burst your bubble, but your improvement will require a lot of hard work. If you can comprehend information fast and effectively and are self motivated, going up from an 18 will be painless.

I can’t understand how you are taking AP Calc BC as a junior but can’t break 30 on math…
If you took Geo, Alg 2, and Trig in high school already then what is the problem? Did you sincerely completely forget it all??

Also, you are in AP English and you couldn’t break a 30 on Reading and English??? I think the problem is that you were too stressed out the night before the ACT and during the test. Or you may have not had enough sleep. Or the pressure got to you.

One way or another, you need to retake the test as soon as possible. Your abilities are clearly not being shown due to some outside factor other than studying. I suggest you sign up for the April or May ACT. And don’t take it lightly.

Honestly, you should be able to get a perfect 36 or at least a 30+ in math. Do practice and see what they expect.

As for Reading, practice a passage a day and you should get the hang of it. For English, just look over all the grammar rules and take practice tests.

The science portion is BS, just practice. But you can still practice all you want and fail it…

So moral of the story, PRACTICE! good luck!
