So I got my ACT test scores, and they were a disaster... How can I improve these scores? I want/need a 30+, I will explain my situation in each section.
Composite Score : 25
FML.

English 22
Usage/Mechanics 12
Rhetorical Skills 11
I was doing really well on practice tests, on barron's tests I would get a thirty something on the practice tests... so i dunno, what do you think i should do?

Mathematics 27
Algebra/Coord. Geometry 13
Plane Geometry/Trig. 13
I didn't really study for this, so I can do more work.

Reading 29
Social Studies/Sciences 14
Arts/Literature 17
How can I improve scores in social studies/sciences?

Science 21
Wow.... just wow...

If anyone has any ideas how I can do that? Any specific books/movies/readings anything ill help me. Also, if anyone has anything that talks about what to do during the test, I would love that..
Is it possible for me to get to the 30+? LEt me know. Thanks...

Any chance you messed up your answer sheet? Do these scores reflect your grades at school and your other standardized test? Have you taken the SAT?

i did pretty poorly on the SAT, but when i took the practice ones it said i was doing well, guess not. in school i get close to a 4.0, my uw gpa is around a 3.8, so i dunno.

I think this June Act was one of the harshest…
also, it takes some getting used to so you can do better just by becoming familiar with the test. You should just buy the real act book and finish the three practice tests as you check all the answers.
It is very possible to jump from the 20’s to the 30’s with a lot of hard work and practice so don’tgive up!

If it helps, the English essays from this ACT were just… bad. They were confusing and a lot of the options were correct, so I don’t know how they expect us to agree with them as to what is “more grammatically correct.”

Just keep practicing and take it again in the fall; don’t give up!

thanks, i hope I can stick with it. all the schools I really want to get into want ( well i would need to get in) at least a thirty. so hopefully i can do it.

Does anyone have any tips for legit/hardest/best explained books for each of the sections? I really just want to do well. I just saw penn, columbia, and nyu, and I really want to push myself so I can be more competitive… thanks

even if it isn’t just for the ACT, maybe a book on grammar tips? or something like math? SCIENCE is the worst for me, and then reading, I would love some help. Thanks everyone.

The Real Act Practice Book, on line practice from ACT, timed tests EVERY day in each subject…timing is critical in the ACT…practice, practice, practice, and take again. Should increase your score - next test is in September - practice time abounds.

Since reading and math are your best sections, I think you should try SAT. Some of the stuff like the Enlish section miht be on the SAT too in the writing section(just guessing, I never took ACT), but most colleges don’t care as much about SAt writing yet, and there definitely is nothing like the science on the SAT. Try not to think about it too much today, happy birthday!

thanks, but it’s not my birthday anymore. haha, now it’s time to do work. And i’m going to start doing as much as I can, I am reading barron’s ACT, and ACT 36. hopefully i’ll do better, and i’m trying to do all this memorization stuff that i’m learning about. I just really hope I can get the score i want. only time will tell

i know it’s ancient, but when people say do practice test then practice test then practice test, where can I get so many tests? I have 1296, Barron’s and RB.

for english, read grammar rules & take practice tests
math and reading just take practice tests your fine on those only practicing will help

for science u cant really ‘study’ but take practice tests and GO FAST.

honestly you need to make sure ur jacked up the morning of the test and your always going, (don’t) stall on a question for too long… Just remember keep going DONT STOP.
