Okay, I know this thread sounds desperate/over-dramatic , but just hear me out.

When it comes to choosing colleges, I'm completely lost. Like, I don't even know what I want to major in or what kind of college experience I'm looking for. There are thousands of colleges out there and I'm worried I'm going to pick the wrong one.

Would anyone be willing to PM or IM me to help me narrow down a list of colleges? It can be a one time thing or as long as you want.

Location: do you want to be close to your family or as far away as possible?

What kind of place? Urban, suburban or rural?

What kind of school? A large state school or a small liberal arts school?

What kind of school can your family resonably afford? If your family makes 60k, it’s probably advisable that you not attend NYU where fees add up to is 50K+ a year.

Answer those questions and you’ll have a better idea.

Rank: 1/398
Location: GA
ACT: 31 (will be retaking my senior year)
SAT: 650 M/ 700 CR/ 710 W (will be retaking my senior year)
Subject Tests: N/A
Activities: Leadership roles in numerous clubs that I actually have a passion for. Sports take up most of my time though. I’m being recruited by two Ivy Leagues for basketball but I just don’t want to depend on that.

I won’t have any family worth knowing, so it doesn’t matter.

Urban, preferably.

Any small school.

Only 60K, probably less after this summer.

I’m interested in a school that is fairly strong in all aspects, because I’m not set on a major but I’m leaning towards neuroscience or psychology.

Emory comes to mind… so does Vanderbilt and Cornell. These private schools are stingy with their aid though. But you can’t go wrong with your state school, Georgia Tech. It has many top-notch science programs.

-What do you define as a small school? (<10,000?)
-Would you be willing to consider LAC’s?
-Are research opportunities and individualized attention (for example, professors doing the teaching) essential?
-Does diversity matter?
-Are there any specific sports or programs that need to be offered?
-Does weather factor into your decision?
-Would you consider attending a religious school or a single gender school?

Thanks Orbit! Would being AA increase my chances at these schools?

Yes.

Not essential, but preferable.

Yes. I’m AA, but I’m used to being the only one though.

IM basketball or volleyball if I’m not being recruited.

I prefer cold weather and I can’t see myself on a campus where it’s hot year round.

No.

@rr I’ve already tried that and the CC one, but I cannot in good conscience apply to those schools without hearing suggestions/opinions from actual people.
