Vassar is my top choice, but I won't be applying ED because of my financial situation and I probably won't be able to visit. Besides requesting an interview, how else can I show demonstrated interest? Should I try harder to arrange a visit?

ED - I was an ED. International. I was realllly worried about the financial but for me it turned out... way more awesome than I'd ever expected.
However, if you haven't visited before, be careful. Before my senior year I went on a college tour in the US with my family. I had three favourites before I went on the tour: Yale, Colgate and Dartmouth. Yale and Colgate I literally hated. I didn't end up applying there because I knew I wouldn't be happy there. I'm really glad I went to visit all these colleges (lots of LACs)... Especially Vassar. I almost didn't go see Vassar because I didn't know much about it and had concentrated too much on Yale. It was my parents who were like "we've come all the way from Germany for you to see all these colleges. Just because you're tired doesn't give you the right to waste money."
After that, Vassar was a favourite. Don't let the fact that I disliked two of my favourites scare you when choosing, though... I liked Vassar a lot and I'm really picky!
Good luck, wherever you end up!

Actually, I just reread your post... you were sort of asking how not visiting will count against you and not asking what I thought you did...
I don't think that this will do any major damage to your profile. Lots of people can't visit. I see you currently reside in California, which is far away, and they will completely understand.
There's a section on the Vassar application which asks you why you want to go to Vassar. In this section, perhaps state that you unfortunately didn't have the chance to visit but... liked Vassar because <fill in="" stuff="" here="">. Something in the likes of that :).</fill>

Thanks for the reply, vemafe. I think I'll take your advice for the application. Btw - are you going to Vassar?

I was recently visiting my aunt in MA, but I could not get to NY to see Vassar. Does anyone know if it does a fair in the Bay Area of CA? I need to learn more about it somehow.
