<p>what’s up with all your guys grading scales? It’s seems strange to me that a 94 is a B in some places.
At my school:
97+ = A +
93-96= A
90-92= A-
87-89= B+
83-86= B
and so on.
Wow, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of these kinds of grading scales.</p>

<p>At my school letters like A, B, C don’t show up on the transcript. Instead we get number grades 1-100. Then, the numbers are averaged and this average creates your GPA. 92-100 is a 4.0</p>
<p>I think the schools just need to create a universal grading system. I think a 94 as a B is very strange…my school is the same way as chocobok’s system. However, at my school, only a 100 is an A+…which is practically impossible…</p>
<p>I think a percentage would be much better than letter +/- systems. That way, a 94 is a 94 no matter what. Colleges have a better idea on what subjects you truly have mastered (97-100), somewhat mastered (93-96), etc. It would be a much better system. And this whole GPA thing…why not just an average percentage? I think it makes more sense, however, I have never used the system so I am not sure.</p>

<p>I would hate the percentage system. It doesn’t matter to me if I have an 90.0%(A-) vs. a 100%(A+), because they come out as the same on my transcript. So I have some room from slacking.
The percentage system would drive me absolutely nuts. I would feel like I had to get a 100% in everything. I would think percentage is the most strict grading scale (excluding the 94%= B+ scale, of course) because colleges see all (and I would rather they didn’t see my 90%'s).</p>
<p>Tell me about it. Also, its virtually impossible to get another higher than maybe a 97% in my Honors and AP classes. There is no extra credit or curve. The best average in my class is like a 95% unweighted which moves up to around a 102% weighted. I’ve got like a 92uw and 97 weighted. </p>
<p>Luckily, I think colleges realize there are tons of f’d up scales. My grades are probably the second tier they receive and that’s all that really matters. They don’t look into the individual grades that closely. Especially when they know the school (like mine) has a very tough scale.</p>

My school doesn’t have A+/A/A- and that sort of thing.
We just have a percentages that correlate to GPAs:
AP: 100 - 5.87
99 - 5.65</p>

<p>And class rank doesn’t work because at my school there are a lot of people who have 4.0’s but don’t take AP and Honors courses. The regular courses are much easier than AP courses which are basically impossible to obtain an A in.</p>

<p>Actually, I heard about it because a few of the elementary schools around the state have put it in. I loved the system from moment one. I need to meet some of the parents and ask them how it’s working for their families, but from the sound of it, it would be a great set up.</p>
<p>One downfall is could you imagine if every school in the country did it, being an admissions officer at a popular college?</p>
<p>I fully agrre with getting rid of B+'s. </p>
<p>I had straight A’s in my english class, got a B- on the final, and so I’ll get a B+. Mind you, the essay question is accepted by all students that have taken the final as BS. AND I took it right after getting extremely good news and I couldn’t concentrate because I wanted to be done so I could call my family to let them know. I KNOW that I aced the multiple choice section, so it’s pretty much the essay ruined my whole course. So you could say I’m a bit bitter about this.</p>
<p>My school has no pluses or minuses. You get a flat letter grade and a short comment from some teachers. The comments can only be selected from a list though. My Art History teacher sent short letters to my house every quarter or more, telling my parents how well I was doing, so that was pretty awesome.
In elementary school, we got E, S, or U. We got like 30 grades on our report card for quarter, in a whole variety of things, like behavior, leadership, organization, personal skills, and then a couple for each academic area, etc, not just an E in the class. But the main concentration was our the paragraph from our teacher, who really got to know us over the three years in his/her class.
But I think the A, B, C, blah system should be used for HS to have a more quantitative comparison. I’d like there to also be teacher comments though.</p>
<p>Pass/Fail is a great concept. You know teachers should also grade on effort!</p>

<p>if they got a pass/fail, i would want the “pass” to be about a 90, so then people would have to be more than proficient in the subject.</p>

<p>Admissions should be based solely pass/fail completion of high school, courseload rigor, and SATs. This system would favor me most so we should put it in place immediately.</p>
<p>Gonna be honest, I don’t know what a “d” means if you get it on a report card. Is it failing or not? If it is failing, how is it different from an “f”?</p>
