I read once on these forums that CMU was for kids who were rejected by MIT...

Well, I fit in that category now =)

(waitlisted, actually. Nonetheless, CMU is #1 now.. lol)

Well, I guess it really depends on what you’re studying, but yeah, for a lot of my friends whose #1 is MIT, CMU is their backup or #2, or whatever. Still, CMU is awesome and you should be happy to go should you get in!

I think Carnegie-Mellon might possibly be cooler, but just more expensive and not as generous with financial aid.

I doubt the drama kids would agree. CMU is not a pure-tech school. I came here for business and MIT never crossed my mind. Wharton on the other hand…

I think CMU will have a low acceptance rate this year…right?

My son is in the School of Computer Science, apparently at the first meeting of the freshman class (just SCS) they asked how many kids had had MIT as their first choice and about 3/4 of them raised their hands (including my son.)

it’s very stupid to say such a thing. then i guess RPI is a school for people who got rejected from CMU and Purdue is a school for people who got rejected from RPI. Georgetown is a school for people rejected from Duke and Boston College is a school for people who got rejected from Georgetown then Boston University is for people who got rejected from BC

oh by the way MIT Sloan is one of the top business schools of the US too.

MIT students are workaholics though. And anyway cmu girls are more attractive.

well i do hope so, since i got rejected and i really hope i can get into cmu now :]

I think this depends on how many years you’ve been at CMU. As a freshman, certainly not. As a senior? Quite possibly.

Know my fair share of CS’ers for whom CMU was a first choice.

MIT is for the kids who aren’t cool enough for Stanford ;D

(i got rejected from MIT and accepted to Stanford. But i do have an app out to CMU, which is the only thing that makes this post relevant)

nah… CMU was my first choice, actually considering ED’ing except for Olin, where I was rejected.

My parents wanted me to apply to MIT though, it wasn’t really a first choice though I was still disappointed to be rejected (saw it coming though)
