i really want to go to rice.. and its not not-being-admitted thats stopping me from..

<p>I really dont know where this is suppose to go... but i really wanted to share it with someone.....
I got into Rice.. but isnot like i have the perfect scores or anything.
Nothing extra-ordinary EC...
1940 SAT I, 680 Math II-C, 740 Physics...
but got nearly all As in highschool =)
i think my essays were good.. even though the What will you give to Rice essay was written just a fews hours because the deadline!
Well, but thanks to God, i got in!!!!!
and everything is going right. My parents are happy and willing to send me to houston from karachi. I am happy and really want to go to Rice.
But I dont think it will happen =(
Im scared I wont get te visa... and its really freaking me out..
Ive been to houston thrice before and I recently visited houston in the summer of 07! That wouldve worked really in my favour!!! but...
when leaving houston (right on time) i did not register through the international something department which YOU have to do in any case!!!!!
and since the US immigration and visa policies are getting so strict these days, esp towards male Pakistanis, i doubt ill get the visa =(
And it wasnt "completely" my fault that I didnt register. I asked three officers at the airport where it was suppose to be done.. and two were clueless and the third told me that it would be done at the gate but he was wrong =( and now his misguidance is costing me so much.....
i know you guys cant really say anything or do anything about it... but i just wanted to share it... really heartbroken</p>

<p>I suggest that you immediately prepare an email with the details ready to go, and call the Admissions Office Monday morning, Houston time (Monday night yours). Rice has pretty good lawyers and connections that may make a substantial difference if Admissions uses its University resources well. </p>

<p>You need to tell Rice if you really want to be a Rice student, but "just" have an immigration problem. I would think that you should formally accept their offer, make the enrollment deposit ($300?), and try to work it out over the summer. If for some incredibly asinine government reason you can't make Freshman week in August, I would be surprised if Rice did not make strong efforts to accomodate your situation in every way. You need to let Rice know that you need their help, now.</p>

<p>I couldn't reply. " f...89 has exceeded their stored private messages quota and can not accept further messages until they clear some space."</p>

<p>hey, what is your name by the way? My suite was supposed to get a guy named Mustafa from Karachi last year but he never showed up. Was it you?</p>

<p>Call the Admission office ASAP. I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened so they'd know how to deal with it.</p>

<p>ive called the admisson office but i will do it again.
and no im not mustafa.. my name is Fahad!!</p>

<p>oh, that's sad. We were confused when he never showed up and then we got another roommate</p>
