... do I have a chance?

-Caucasian male living in the metro Detroit Area
-Dual citizenship (Belgian and American)
-I was born in Michigan, but when I was 10 months old, I moved to Germany where I attended kindergarten and elementary school run by the Belgian army. Back in Michigan, I had to go to an American high school, which was difficult since I never spoke English before.
-Fluent in German, Dutch/Flemish, French and English
- I attended a full IB school, International Academy (ranked the 6th best high school in North America)
-All of my classes (8) are IB classes
-Unweighted GPA is 3.42, but weighted GPA is 4.55
-ACT score: 27
-Sports:I play Varsity football and fence with my church
-EC and leadership: I am Editor of the school newspaper, member of the German Honor Society and club officer of the German Student Association.
-Honors: I got multiple letters of recommendations of my teachers, awards for being excellent in both German and French/
-Approximately 50 hours of community service.

Thanks for the answers in advance

Your gpa is a bit low, but that is to be expected graduating from a top high school IB program. I would really concentrate on getting that ACT score up a couple of points. That would really help. Of course you have a change to be admitted, just make sure you apply as early as possible.

Reach.
Yeah… even with IA… GPA is too low.

A 3.4 GPA is on the low side, but the IA is highly regarded, so you will probably be given special consideration. however, your ACT is on the low side. Try to raise it to 29 or 30. Michigan is a reach, but if you can raise your ACT a few points, you have a realistic short.

okay, I will definitely try.
Any more ideas?

bump…

Have you calculated your UMichigan GPA? Remove freshmen year and non academic classes (everything but science, math, foreign language, english, history, and computer classes) and then calculate using:
A (no pluses or minuses) = 4, B (no pluses or minuses) = 3, etc. Idk if this will raise, lower, or keep your GPA the same, but you definitely want to try doing this because that is the GPA they will be looking at. It also helps us give you better chances :)

Otherwise, you stand a good chance if you can manage to get your ACT up to a 29 or 30, as was previously mentioned. Don’t underestimate how much U of M loves IA!

Hi, I’m waitlisted to U of Mich. Is it required to send a final transcript to the admissions office? I did not see anywhere in “waitlist FAQ” that it said so.

Ask the admissions, I think you might have to.
