I really want to study at MIT

Hi, I am a high school sophomore, and I really want to major in math or physics at MIT. I would really appreciate your response!

I am:
Sophomore at Brookline High (MA)
Japanese/ east asian
Permanent resident i.e. I have a 'green card' but i am not a US citizen
Male

I take the hardest class in all subjects, and get solid A's except for french class (B+). I do many EC as well:

Juggling Club, Co-president
Volunteer math tutor at local elementary school
Model UN
Innovation Club ( we do science competitions)
I also play classical guitar for 10 years, but never did any competitions.
I have passed MIT's 8.01 physics class on edX.

Next year, I am planning to take the following courses:
APUSH
AP Chem
AP Calc BC
French IV Advanced
Bio I Honors
English Honors (no ap offered )

I am just curious as to what my chances are. Thanks!

MIT rejects most of the students who apply, so I don’t think I’m the only person on CC that will say MIT is a reach for practically everyone, no matter how smart they think they are.

That being said, you look like you have the potential to be a competitive applicant. It’s hard to judge you without some SAT I/II or ACT scores, but I think you will have a good idea where you stand once you take those next year.

(Side-note: As for your extracurricular activities, they aren’t necessarily bad but a lot of people that apply to these schools do the same things - school club, tutoring, Model UN/FBLA/DECA, etc. You’re a sophomore so you have plenty of time to find something that’s unique, however. Since you seem interested in math and physics, my advice is to try to do really well on your AMC 10/12… If you qualify for the US Math team that would do wonders for your application. Also look into some summer programs like RSI - it’s at MIT I believe.)

Get super competitive test scores and you stand a good chance. It’ll also help if you find research opportunities for this summer/your junior year. Good luck!
You have a 0% chance of getting into MIT. They don’t accept anyone unless they have an sat or act, two sat subject test scores, junior year grades, and the first part of senior year grades. From where you are now, you will not be getting in.
That may sound harsh, but take this away from my criticism:
You are still only a sophomore, so you still have a chance to do well in things. Also, your ECs look a little lacking in leadership and a specific focus. As a male, especially of asian descent, you are going to need a good hook. Go launch a start up company or become awesome at something. I wish I had.

westwoods due to MIT #1 ranking on an international college web site, MIT has been having very strong international applications. My friend’s DD who was admitted to LOTS of very competitive schools, was wait-listed at MIT with an apology (her dad was a MIT graduate). She went to Cooper Union and loves it (EE). Also admitted all the other schools - UT (she is from TX), CO School of Mines, Vanderbilt, Cornell, VA Tech, others that I do not remember.

There may be circumstances beyond your control. If undergrad doesn’t work out, maybe graduate school at MIT.

Be sure to have some fun in HS. Get involved in ECs. You can plan goals, but also enjoy the process and develop yourself to be a great candidate wherever you go to college.

When I was in HS, we had a Japanese exchange student who enjoyed his HS year in the States - his schooling in Japan was so tight - work, work, work and stress, stress, stress.
