I still havent gotten in yet...

Hi,
I just wonder how many spaces left for this year? UM is my top pick and I really really want to go there (although chances seem pretty low)...

"As Chambay says, if it is a rejection -- so be it and let the kids know"

How would that be fair to students who really want to come to Michigan and would be willing to wait until April 15th to see if there were spots available? The University doesn't know whether you're willing to wait or would just prefer a rejection. I just think it's pretty ignorant to assume that since you'd prefer a rejection over being on a waitlist, that's what the University should do. If you don't like it, you're free to take it as a rejection and move on.

This practice is commonly done is graduate school admissions, since they need to be more precise on how many people they admit for funding purposes. Right now my friend has only been accepted to one place (for graduate school) that he doesn't really want to go to; I'm sure he likes still being on the wait-list for a few schools more than he'd like already being rejected from everywhere else.

As Chambay says, if it is a rejection -- so be it and let the kids know -- and why by snail mail --

Michigan has been handing out rejection letters all along, for those applicants who are clearly not "qualified to admit". Come April 15, I'd expect that most will be admitted or waitlisted.

Regarding notification, according to Chambay, "If you are accepted or waitlisted, it will also show up on W.A."

^^ Are You Friggin' Serious!! :D

I think it's mainly because their deadline was 2/1, so they can't finish reading. If they move that to 12/1 or 1/1 then I think they'd be better off.

This was back in 1995 when college selection was not too rough, but look when this letter was dated????? That is ridiculous! So I'm assuming there are rejection looming in their admissions office. CLICK ON THE PICUTRE AT THE TOP

I just got waitlisted. I had a 30 ACt, 3.97UW GPA and am Pres. of NHS, Drama Club, and participate in Knowledge Bowl and Varsity Basketball. I even picked up an extra class for UM and have been waiting since November. I'm so depressed and confused right now. I'm in state by the way.

really sorry to hear about that man...u got really great stats, btw did u find this out on WA or through snail mail/courier?

Sorry to hear that, and even more sorry to realize that it's April 9th, and I stand no chance whatsoever.

(lower act - 29), lower gpa (3.8/3.9).

folks - i think my message was misinterpreted. I am fairly certain that some of them have been rejected. my point is that these kids should be told as soon as possible and not all on April 15th. It will help them make their final decisions and move on. It has been 6+ months. Irrespective of whether they were slammed with unexpected number of apps or not, this shows that UofM planned and executed on this poorly. Obviously based on the posting above from the 1995 rejection letter this is not limited just to this year. Hopefully they will improve in the years to come

With app volume on the rise, Michigan is getting increasingly hard to get into.

Some of the students who end up waitlisted (this year, or any recent year) are students Michigan would be lucky to have! They'd do great here, and Michigan would love to have them as a part of their student body. They know that; it stinks to have to say no to students who would be a great fit here. But there's only so much room, and in a year when yield appears to be good, the number a school can admit shrinks even further.

It's not generally a matter of Michigan being unable to "make up their minds" about students who have been waiting a long time. It's a matter of waiting until more yield indicators are in so they know how many spaces are really available.

ok - get this. i called them this morning & was told that the deferred kids can expect to have their decision by April 30th !!!!!!!!!!!! and have to make their decisions by May 1st!!!!!!

I think that the woman was giving me the party line -- but that party line by itself makes no sense.

I guess we will move on.

Good luck to all who are waiting.

That information is not correct for students in LSA and Engin. It will not be as late as April 30th.

It appears that things haven't changed much from S's deferral saga of the '06 admissions cycle.

Regardless of mid-April, late-April, good thinking to move on cupksdad. If anything like past years, many of the deferrals will come back as waitlist decisions. After 5+ months of waiting, S blew off the deferral and committed elsewhere. He's never looked back and is on study abroad in Madrid right now having a blast.

Absolutely crazy. Makes me wonder how #1 son ever got in.

A few years ago i heard that the non-deferred ppl got their decisions on 10th April, does anyone think that its gonna happen this year as well?

I was told my non-deferred d would hear this week.

For those wondering, I got my waitlisted message on WA. I'm still in shock. I had even picked up an extra Advanced French class by request of my admissions officer at U of M. Still.....rejected.

Wow...I can't stop checking my WA every 2 seconds.

So worried.

r u guys sure about the 10th of April thing for those who weren't deferred??.how about the person who said decisions will be out April 30th??
