I suppose it's time, isn't it?

Ciao mes amis. I've realized it's probably time to do a serious chances thread, arriving at second semester of my junior year. Still a lot to be decided, but I'll givitago.

* ACT: Not submitted
* SAT II: Chem (750), Lit (800), French (800)
* Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.6
* Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): about 25/500
* AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), Biology (5), Italian, English Language, English Literature, Chemistry, French, Calculus BC, US History, European History
* IB (place score in parenthesis): None
* Junior Year Course Load: AP Italian (never took any Italian beforehand, studied on my own to qualify for the course), AP English Language, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP US History
* Senior Year Course Load: AP German, AP English Literature, Honors Physics, Multivariable Calculus/Linear Algebra, AP European History

Subjective:

* Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Debate Club (President/Founder, now one of the largest clubs in the school, significant time commitment), Drama Club (Actor, possible future president, significant time commitment), Drama Club's Alumni Magazine (Head Writer), MacBeth Festival (Head Writer), Advanced student of a martial art, Guitar (10 years, now teach for a little extra money)
* Job/Work Experience: Give guitar lessons to small children, teaching French
* Volunteer/Community service: After-school tutor, tour guide for FDRoosevelt home, wrote original music for elementary school play, pronouncer for elementary school spelling bee, play guitar at various formal events
* Summer Activities: Worked as a live-in student for my martial arts dojo during the summer, may study acting this summer
* Essays: Writing is what I'm best at, so I'm confident these will be good; will discuss debate club and the journey of making it a success.
* Teacher Recommendation: One from my English teacher raving about how I am by far her top student in 35 years, one from my calculus teacher about my dedication and endurance. These will be what gets me in, if anything: both of them will attest to how "involved" and how much of a "leader" I am.
* Counselor Rec: Very favorable, about how I always challenge myself
* Additional Rec: Possibly from an acting instructor
* Interview: I come across very well in interviews

Interests:

University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania
Vanderbilt University
Cornell University
New York University
Columbia University
Dartmouth College
Vassar College
McGill University
UC Berkeley
Yale University

Vassar, vandy, nyu, all seem likely just realiZe you picked a very selective list of schools so nothing is a guareenteed

Just a comment. Read through the boards here to see how many want to ecplain away just what happened to make their resume less than perfect. If I hear one more kids say “I can explain”…colleges don’t want to hear it! They are looking for demonstrated talent, not unfulfilled potential.

You have the stats to get into good colleges. Focus on telling colleges who you are and what you have to offer, not excuses.

Appropriately edited. Good advice. I wouldn’t want to explain it anyway, just talk about how my personal changes have fueled a refocusing on school.

I do want to somehow make it clear, however, that my rank and GPA alone could mislead you: they were both significantly affected by poor performance in math freshman and sophomore years, but I am now one of the “stand-outs” (in terms of grades) in a calculus class of only ten juniors.

^They will all see that without you needing to point it out.

Also, Georgetown. Love DC.

shameless bump

another shameless bump
