By all do respect, your use of "LOL" is quite excessive. :) Plus you won't even have time to dress up in college let alone bathe if your an engineering major hehe. Grab a pair of decent jeans, comfortable cotton hoodie, some sneakers and go!

If it's snowy, you can always wear mukluks for boots. If you wear them right it can look cute (definetly a jeans tucked in or leggings thing) and they're different than Uggs if you don't want those.

http://www.fitzjohns.co.uk/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2
as an example (albeit an expensive one, but I was just looking for the pic)

Some advice from another (emigrated) Swede ;): If you do shop at H&M (and many other places, especially if they're inexpensive), make sure you look at fiber content before buying any sweaters; they use a lot of acrylic, which really isn't warm at all, so look for natural fibers. Layering is really the most important part. I usually wear a cotton tank top, fitted t-shirt or light sweater like this cotton v-neck, a fitted North Face fleece, and a knee-length lined wool coat from J. Crew, combined with either pants (jeans or cords) or tights and a cute skirt. Accessorize with an assortment of scarves, gloves, and hats. The light sweater/fleece combination can be exchanged for a hoodie if you prefer that, or a short-sleeved t-shirt over a long-sleeved one (only works with certain styles/colors, though, otherwise it can look very strange); layers are added and subtracted according to temperature. I actually do wear UGGs because I walk a lot and they're insanely comfortable, even though I hate how trendy they are.

i'm an engineer, and even i have time to spend a little to think about how i wanna look when it's cold out...i'm not metro or anything, it's just i don't want everyone to know i'm an engineer :p (i.e. North Face jacket haha...no offense, but a lot of times their jackets just far more practical than they are fashionable...EDIT: but the above fitted North Face fleece doesn't look bad).

you can just layer up, with each layer making sense with the other...what i do is i have sort-of thick long sleeve shirts that i wear over my "normal" shirts (maybe under shirts, depending on how it looks). then i throw on a peacoat or track jacket even over that. H&M sounds like a pretty good place to look.

isthatcatfish - dude those look like hooker boots. LOL.

but yeah. what kind of style do you usually wear? preppy? vintage? i can make a list after i know your taste a lil more haha :D

haha you won't even have to worry about winter clothes until at least October. I wouldn't even worry about it now! But if you are buying clothes for the sake of looking cute and warm, I really love my poofy (I don't know if this is the proper term or not) north face. It also looks good with jeans when I am going to class and it keeps me sooooo warm. It was pretty expensive but I wear it all the time.

O yeah, scarves and gloves are good investments for cold weather. Keeping your neck and hands warm can go a long way. Have fun next year! Congrats!

GremStarr66, how rude...yea! I've looked on the internet and in the mall. I need personal opinion on what the best product is and how to get, because i'm not from up north.....i do NOT need you rude comments.

..and no KUNFUZED101...I'm not and engineer major...some ppl on here suck...Thanks to those who actually helped.

I personally think you should just wait and see what everyone else is wearing. You're going to college in August, not December. You'll have 3-4 months before it starts getting really cold. Plus, now, you won't find any good stuff because it's already spring, and what you do get will be outdated by this winter. Just wait until this fall and buy stuff when you get there. Don't worry so much! Winter weather isn't too big a deal!

I love cute winter outfits! squeal You can look nice and be covered up. What could be better?

But anywho... you can never have enough scarves. Get some earmuffs and/or a cute hat. Knit gloves are nice, but have at least one pair of leather ones, because they're windproof. Wool or cashmere cable knits are warm -- J. Crew sweaters tend to fit well, at least for me. Before you buy them, check to make sure you're not sensitive to the wool, because that can get annoying (or you can just get some oxford shirts to go under them). You might also want to get some leggings/tights, which look really cute under a skirt, and knee socks. (I'm from California and I didn't own anything but ankle socks... winter air is really harsh on skin.) If you get boots, make sure they have good traction, because otherwise they're pointless since you'll slip to death on icy pavement. And get whatever winter clothes you can get now because classic really doesn't get "outdated."

actually, while you might think people who write this live under a rock, we're not. most southern malls carry completely different inventory...and we still don't know what's in style...

I live in Vt, and I'll wear jeans and a peacoat with a sweater underneath- when its really cold, I'll throw on a hat and scarf too. For shoes, unless it just snowed, I'm fine with danskos or ballet flats. When its really bad, I'll throw on some old deerskin gloves and a pair of boots I've has forever. I honestly don't wear the boots that often, though.

never be afraid of experiments, try to show your style and being special, it's important!!I'll have on a T-shirt,jeans,boots,and a good bomber jacket, that's all

in the winter for a female (from a guy):

Furry/Fuzzy Jacket (or a peacoat w/scarf)
Skirt
Leggins
Big, UGGesque boots.

so sexy.

"GLUF COAST!" lol

UGGs are laughable.

dont get uggs. Those are for comfort like crocs but not for your visual pleasure. ewws.

I think uggs are kind of cute looking...the plain ones, not the fuzzy ones. they look nice in dark brown. and they are sooo comfy, like slippers. I don't own a pair but I wore my sister's the other day and I have to say they felt really good. Still, I won't get a pair because I don't think they're worth the money, and I'm kind of embarassed to be wearing them, which I guess makes me shallow.

Do you really need to be rude?? I don’t think so.
