winter is coming!

Hi! I know that it is only July.....but my freshman D is already to figure out what type of winter coat she needs. She has been told that a short down jacket is fine while other people have suggested the real long north face coat is needed for those cold syracuse days.

If anyone has any suggestions or has experienced Syracuse winters, please let me know.
Thank you!!!

yeah its really cold in syracuse, most winters there’s over 3 feet snow, one winter there was 10 feet of snow lol

I live in NJ. We actually had more snow than syracuse did this past winter. You never know!!!

Face it, Born2runMom. The warm coat is just for Your comfort. Your D may say she will wear it, but she will be wearing a leather jacket or a sweatshirt- maybe a fleece if you’re lucky- unless she is actually skiing. I couldn’t get my HS kids to put on a pair of gloves here in Western Mass while I was wearing mittens and thermal underwear.

Exactly lol but since its upstate NY and by the great lakes, its better to be prepared i think a north face is a really good brand i know most stores are having winter items (like snow boots, mittens, and hats) on sale now

@2bizee - that sounds like me when i was younger LOL, i learn the hard way and finally accept that big north face lol

My sophomore D loved her Northface short down jacket and Northfleece fleece. She never wore a winter jacket in high school (and we live in Mass.) but definitely needed them in SU. Rainboots with warm wellie socks are a must - there’s mud much of the time. Also, the campus does a great job of keeping walkways clear which means there is lots of salt to ruin leather and suede boots. Also, tell her to buy gloves and a hat.
She will also need a fan for all year - the dorms are very hot even in the winter and her window was open most of the year.

Thanks for all of the helpful tips!!! We had no idea that the dorms are kept so warm in the winter. I guess its safe to assume that the classrooms are also warm…so my D will be happy to wear her tee shirts under her jacket in the middle of the winter! I can’t believe its 90 degrees out today, and I am talking about winter clothing!!! Thanks again!

Hey Syracuse is the school that im really hoping to get into, maybe you could help me out

But to answer your thread, I heard Syracuse can get really really cold, get a north face, there a really popular north face collection out right now, the’yre called Steep Tech’s, the’yy keep her super warm, they look really cool, and are popular
