I got my letter of acceptance a few weeks ago. My major as of right now is Aerospace Engineer but that is not what I want. As of now, I really do not want to study anything with engineering. I am actually thinking about majoring in business and minoring in performing arts. My question is how soon can I change my major and is it easy. Also during my freshman year, do I have to take my engineering classes? I actually wanted to be an engineer when I applied but I am getting out of it due to business and drama classes I am taking right now. I am in love with the school so I still want to attend Cal poly Slo.

I started out as an aerospace major as well, and a lot like you, knew that my passion was in the business side of things.

You are not forced to take any engineering classes, but you are forced to take major support courses which include Calculus and English. This wont be a problem because they are courses you will need to take for the college of business as well.

You have to write your name on a form, have your department head sign it, and as long as your gpa is above a 2.0 you should not have any problems getting your new major's department head to sign it as well. (gpa requirements vary, but they aren't high) The whole process can be done as fast as you can walk/run between the office locations.

If you haven't already, I would take a look at the industrial engineering program. It might be a better compromise for any interest you had in engineering combined with business. This is what I switched into, and I consider it one of the best choices I have ever made.

My best advice is to get the flow charts for your current major, and the one you want to switch to... and take a quarter's worth of classes that are on each chart before switching.
