I want to go pre-law, what should I major in?

I was thinking History, English, or Political Science, but could you please help me out, if you could give a reason with your answer, that would be much appreciated.

Law schools accept students from virtually all majors. Any of the three you list would be fine as would chemistry, engineering, math, psychology, accounting, economics, sociology, and [name any other]. You should major in what your desires tell you.

Major in something that will give you a high GPA.

This topic has come up 10 times in the past 2 months. How about reading some of the other threads here? Geeze, if you want to be a lawyer, you will need to do research. Start now.

Don’t read any of the other threads; they are filled with absurd lies. As for your question, major in anything you want. Any major that sounds law-related (example “pre-law”) tends to be discouraged by people on this forum because they tend to get lower LSAT scores which hurts you.

Without question, Mathematics.

my advice: pick the one you think will be easiest for you. the major is largely irrelevant (except that i heard any “pre-law” majors are shunned); only the grades/gpa really matter.

i really should have gotten a 4.0 as a sociology major in retrospect (instead of a 3.75 in poli sci). don’t make the same mistake as i did!

the brian is correct. maximize GPA, which probably means sociology. sociology is about as low as you can go on the “respect” meter and not be docked by law schools. it is easier to get a high GPA (usually) than english/political science/etc.

yep. by no means is political science overly difficult, but typically sociology is the way to go because it really is notably easier.

i wish i told myself this a few years ago…

Haha, not so sure about that. Some law schools are known to dock even that.

I agree these “what should I major in” threads are getting a bit old.

Whatever you are passionate about and will give you opportunities to write, write, write.

Math or philosophy.
