I want to know more information about college of liberal arts minnesota twin city.

I am an international student , so I know a little about the college of liberal arts in America. What's college of liberal arts? If i was admitted by college of liberal arts, do i have chance to change my faculty? for example, if i want to study in carlson management, but i am enrolled by college of liberal arts, do i have chance to go to carlson management? in another words, if i am failed to apply carlson management, is it mean i have to finish all my four years in college of liberal arts?

and, is the college of liberal arts belong to minnesota twin city? or it just an independent college.

could u help me to solve my problem? please give me the explanation as much as you can . Many thanks!!!

followind…In the US, many Universities are made up of several Colleges. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus contains several Colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts, Carlson School of Management, College of Biological Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, etc.

When you fill out your application for the University, you list which College you would like to enroll in. Some of the Colleges have less stringent admission requirements than others (Biological Sciences and Science and Engineering are the hardest to get accepted in). Here is a link showing the profile of admitted students who started at the U this fall. You can compare your statistics (grades, SAT/ACT scores, etc.) to the profile for the various Colleges to see how good of a fit you might be for each.

[Academic Profile](Academic Profile of Fall 2022 Admitted Freshman Applicants by College | Office of Admissions)

If you haven’t seen it already, here is a link to a page for International Students that may give you some additional information on requirements.

If you are accepted at the University, you will have certain required courses to take depending on which College you are enrolled in. But you also will have the ability to take classes (as your schedule allows) within any of the other Colleges. So yes…as a Liberal Arts student you have the possibility of taking some classes offered by Carlson School of Management.

You can also apply to transfer between Colleges once you’ve started your classes at the University. It’s fairly common for students to request to transfer to a different College, but whether or not the transfer is approved will be largely dependent upon your grades in your college courses. If you get accepted to the University, you would have academic advisors who could give you more exact information. Bottom line though…yes, it is possible for you to eventually end up in Carlson even if you get accepted into a different College initially.

I’d recommend you read through the University’s website as much as possible to familiarize yourself with the organization/offerings of each of the colleges, transfer policy, etc. Good Luck!!

thank you very much! I checked my status one hour ago, it displayed i have been enrolled by the school. but now,i could not login my account. i hope everything is ok. and is it possible that the school updates a wrong decision? i hope not…

how long it took for admission decision? Actually when did you apply? Are there anyone transfering within the coordinate campuses???

I know a lot of people who came into the U thinking they would eventually transfer into Carlson, then never get in because it is extremely competitive, so they complete a b.a. in some major they were never passionate about.

Carlson only allows fall transfer admissions, and I believe last year they only accepted a total of 50 students, out of like a few thousand applicants. Just try to keep that in mind as you decide on a major.

@Plumney1,

That’s what I’m trying to do, get into Carlson since I’ve been admitted as a CLA student. Not getting into Carlson once I get there, is a BIG DEATH SENTENCE FOR ME. OMG. I have no idea what I would do, since I’m coming ALL the way out of State.

You can read about the transfer process here: [Transfer Students - Undergraduate Program - Carlson School of Management](http://www.csom.umn.edu/undergraduate/admissions/transfer/index.html)

I love the UofM, but I honestly would not have chosen to come here if I had been in a situation where an intercollege transfer was necessary to study what I wanted.

I agree with plumey (I don’t think I spelt it right). It is extremely competitive. I know of several other people attempting to transfer from the College of Biological Sciences that were unsuccessful this year. Do NOT apply to the University of Minnesota if you do you accept the fact that you may not gain admission into Carlson. Do not forget that they offer a Quantitative Economis degree for those interested.

thank u very much! actually,Carlson is not my unique goal. it is very good if i could transfer into it but i do not mind studing in CLA. it seems the CLA is also pretty ok! transferring into Carlson is just an example …
