followind…In the US, many Universities are made up of several Colleges. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus contains several Colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts, Carlson School of Management, College of Biological Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, etc.

When you fill out your application for the University, you list which College you would like to enroll in. Some of the Colleges have less stringent admission requirements than others (Biological Sciences and Science and Engineering are the hardest to get accepted in). Here is a link showing the profile of admitted students who started at the U this fall. You can compare your statistics (grades, SAT/ACT scores, etc.) to the profile for the various Colleges to see how good of a fit you might be for each.

If you haven’t seen it already, here is a link to a page for International Students that may give you some additional information on requirements.

If you are accepted at the University, you will have certain required courses to take depending on which College you are enrolled in. But you also will have the ability to take classes (as your schedule allows) within any of the other Colleges. So yes…as a Liberal Arts student you have the possibility of taking some classes offered by Carlson School of Management.

You can also apply to transfer between Colleges once you’ve started your classes at the University. It’s fairly common for students to request to transfer to a different College, but whether or not the transfer is approved will be largely dependent upon your grades in your college courses. If you get accepted to the University, you would have academic advisors who could give you more exact information. Bottom line though…yes, it is possible for you to eventually end up in Carlson even if you get accepted into a different College initially.

I’d recommend you read through the University’s website as much as possible to familiarize yourself with the organization/offerings of each of the colleges, transfer policy, etc. Good Luck!!
