I want to major in film, but...

I want to major in film. It is one of the only majors that I want to study, but my father wants me to study finance/economics, engineering or business, and I don't want to study that. Help?

Maybe you could suggest to him doing a business/economics minor? Or, if he doesnt go for that, even suggest film as a minor and business as your major so in a way, you both win.

Similar suggestion, film major with business minor. Research salaries and opportunities as a film graduate. He may not entirely realize the demand and range of jobs. I bet that is his concern.

Or maybe you could do arts adminstration? It runs along the same lines, but I’d say go with your passion even if your dad doesn’t want that for you. Passion and drive make for a successful career in my mind.

If I am remembering correctly, USC has a business of entertainment major and also a cinema/business certificate or something like that. You can take classes in both Marshall school of business and School of Cinematic Arts. Also, Chapman Univ has both majors. NYU has both, but I’m not sure how easy it is to take classes at both Stern and Tisch.
