I want to play on the volleyball team?

I trained to be a setter for many years (and was even recruited by the Olympic Women’s volleyball coach), however I could not pursue the sport due to my rural location and financial need.

I want to play volleyball in college, but I have not played on a club team or school team in two years. I have been focusing on my academics (math/computer science). I feel like I could compete at a college level given a month or two of training. My specialty is setting. I also am still in contact with the olympic coach and she has written a LOR for me about my hard-working characteristics shown even as a 13 year old (when I started training with her), and how I will succeed at anything I set my mind to.

Should I contact the Pomona coaches and express my interest? Is it too late for recruiting? Would they even consider someone who has not been on an official team in two years? I do not have a recruiting profile or any recent videos of me. I do play volleyball in an adult league and could get decent footage if I really tried to.

You may not be recruited, but you can ask the coach if you could walk in if you get in.

You don’t lose anything by filling out the recruiting questionnaire, usually found on the team website. Often the benefit to being recruited to a D3 school is admission help with and ED application, and you are probably too late for that, but different schools have different admissions rules so don’t give up yet.
