Of course my factors is happiness, cost, location, and major oriented expertise also (experience)
I plan to transfer in one semester... kinda naive and stupid but im looking to go to schools that are oriented to my specialty. I am retaking sats/satii/act
Help with choosing my college... maybe ill stay... itdepends

I live with my mom only… no child support and she makes around 40kper year before taxes… :S

Bump

Did you apply to CMU and get denied?

Please list clearly (tuition+R&B) - (scholarships/grants) = ?
for each college.
DO NOT include any loans.
Since your mother is alone and make 40K year, she’s probably expected to contribute 3-7k toward your education max.
How would you pay for the rest if you don’t have enough in your financial aid package (your mother is unlikely to be approved for large PLUS loans)?
It’s not possible to transfer after a semester and transfers get less financial aid than freshmen, so right now you have to pick a college as if you were to spend 4 years there.
Since you got close to full tuition at Alma, investigate
1° breadth and depth of the CS major (number of classes offered every semester, number of professors)
2° percentage of CS majors who get summer internships (email the head of the dept, start with polite greetings and identify yourself as an admitted student wondering about the CS majors’ placement and internship rates.)

@‌Goingnutsmom yea and @MYOS1634‌ sure thanks let me find em

Getting denied from CMU does not bode well for transfer possibilities. Plus, transfers get little to no financial aid usually. Check CMU’s policy on this. My vote is to go to the best program you got accepted to and incur as little
debt as you can. Good luck!

It’s difficult to figure out exactly how much you will pay per year at each of these schools. For example, at Drexel, is the $16,500 how much you are expected to pay? What do you mean “not including FAFSA?” FAFSA is the application for federal student aid; it’s not a funding package. Do you mean without federal student loans? Are you eligible for any Pell grants? With a family of two on $40,000 you may be eligible for small amount, but not enough to offset the cost of $16,500 per year. Can your mom afford to pay $16.5-19K per year (or probably around ~$9-13K less federal loans and perhaps a little Pell)?

The CUNY colleges are very affordable for in-state residents. City, Queens, Hunger, and Lehman are particularly good campuses, and City is known as the sort of STEM-focused one with a truly beautiful campus. If you will commute from home, that’s a terrific bargain in my opinion.

Manhattan College seems like it may be close to affordable for your mom (although it’s difficult to tell). Still, I’m not sure I would pay more to go there over CCNY, Queens, or Hunter.
