Without getting the petroleum engineering degree. I want to work upstream, like being on the rigs/managing. However, as I see it, the petroleum engineering degree is specialized, in a way that I can probably only get employment as a petroleum engineer.

My main thought is that: Would a mechanical engineering degree land me the same spots as a petroleum engineering degree?

I ask this because a mechanical engineering degree is not as specialized as p.e., so it would have me open to more areas incase of anything.

Thanks.
