My EFC was 60, I got 11k in aid, which still leaves over 27k completely unaccounted for.

There is the tiniest grain of hope in my mind that this was some sort of mistake, but I really I know it probably was not.

I know Boston gives out need-based by a mixture of need and merit, so my GPA was a 3.5, and my SAT I was a 2030. My SAT II Bio was 750 and my US History was 670. I did a fair amount of student leadership, 10th grade Class Committee and ASB junior and senior year, and I did do choir for all four years.

27k is really too much for me to put together somehow each year, yet BU is my top school!

Advice on what I should do, was this really a fair amount of aid for me to receive? Should I simply go to my next choice?

Is your EFC 60k? That means that they assume that your family CAN afford to pay 60k to the school, so 11k should be more than generous, according to the school. It might be merit aid, since the efc should not yield much need based aid. You should definitely call up the fin aid office and try appealing, especially if you want to attend. Honestly, the efc is my view is enough, although you may have family circumstances that they are unaware of.

No, my EFC was 60, as in $60. This is what is so confusing about this.

And to clarify, my above GPA is UW, it’s pretty low, I suppose, which is one of the main reasons that I suspect that I did not get a lot of money.

i think you need to apply for most scholarships
i don’t think BU gives out a lot of money just to students with good grades…
though i could be wrong

don’t worry. I’m in the same boat as you. I got accepted, but only received federal loans from them. Though the CSS clearly showed income has gone down at my household. I only had a 30 ACT and am first in my class so i was kinda hoping for the university scholarship.

Oh well, nothing I can do about it. Kinda glad to know I am not the only one that got an admit/deny type thing. Congrats to everyone that did and can afford it!

is there any possible way BU can give a couple thousands to me? I only got 5500 in aid and if I get at least 9-10k, that’ll be fine. I didnt get any merit, grants or scholarships at all.

That’s pretty much my case.
5500?? Yeah right.
But I REALLY want to leave this state. =[
(^ That 5500 is applying to me - I received that exact amount. lol)

Is there any way we can appeal our financial aid decision or is this the final award? I had an EFC of 0, pretty decent stats and got a total of $11,000 a year, half of that being loans anyways. It was all federal aid too, absolutely nothing from BU. Very surprising.

i think you should be getting more. my efc was $1,900 gpa 4.4 but my sats are 1690 and i got over $54k. you should really call them.
Did you send in all your things on time?

Everything on my part was sent on time, my dad doesn’t live with me, so he just sent in his Non-custodial parent form on the 23rd, could that be why?

Same boat as skazu. 5500 in unsubsidized loans. northeastern is offerin me 12k a year in merit. literally, if BU gave me 9-10k, I would come in a heartbeat. it’s painful to think Ill go into debt for this school. if I could knock off 40k, I could probably afford to come. if I repeal this aid deacison, can I get scholarships or grants? my efc is pretty high, but not as high as the total cost of the school. my stats are going up, (3.72 gpa and rising, 2070 sat), can that help??

A really great tip that i learned is to compare the amount of aid that different schools offer you. For instance, Northeastern is known as a competitor school for BU so BU may be more enticed to “steal” you away from NEU and offer you more money. You just have to know how to show them in the right way. Being nice is a good start I’m sure since telling them “Give me more aid than NEU or I’m walkin’” will probably just make them hate you more. Find a way to show them through an email or something that NEU gave you more aid and that you really want to go to BU. Highlight your academic achievements and how you can contribute to BU. Hopefully, they’ll see your value and cough up some more dough! But remember, nicely! Good luck to you all! You’ll all end up where you’re suppose to be :]

Anyone get the School of Education Presidential Scholarship? What kind of stats? My S applied for it but “only” received a University Scholarship for 1/2 tuition. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very nice chunk, and we were very appreciative, but it’s just not enough. So, he’s going elsewhere. If I could, I would toss it to one of you. Too bad they don’t let us “re-gift.” :(. Good luck, all.

So in order to appeal my fin aid, I call their financial aid office? My stats aren’t really great at all. They were the minimum requirement to enter BU (3.4 UW 1840 SAT). I hope they would listen to me.
