I will mess it up.

I feel everything is good with my extracurriculars, grades and scores. I also feel that all I have to do is concentrate. But the main issue is that in my essays, I cannot talk about myself. I am by nature very modest and I will either write very awkwardly or it will all be a huge debacle. What should I do, especially since I started working on my essays already?

P.S. I am a junior.

Given that you're a junior, you have so much time that you don't need to worry about it. Just write about yourself honestly rather than boa****lly and you'll be fine. Make sure to enlist the help of trusted friends and teachers to edit your essays as well. Lastly, relax. You have plenty of time.

Take a look at some of the excellent books and web sites that describe how to write college essays. The essays aren't supposed to be brag fests, but are supposted to give colleges more insight into your character and interests.

Can you recommend me some sites Northstarmom?
The thing is it is kind of dry because I do not feel comfortable talking about myself. I feel as if I am bragging and that is what discomfits me.

TeenInk has some college essays posted. Here's one that I thought was particularly good because it gave me insight into the applicant's interests and how she was able to apply learning.

you don't necessarily have to write something that says how amazing your are, you just have to give the adcoms some insight into your character.

i found that often times it was a lot easier to write essays than i thought it was. also somethimes you just have to look at the essay topic from a different perspective.

Depending on the college you don't even have to write about yourself. Go to commonapp.org and check out the choice of 6 writing prompts. The last one is "topic of your choice." You can write about anything - it doesn't have to be terribly personal.
