Other stuff/hooks/stuff that I've probably mentioned but am going to mention again:
deaf in right ear, musically inclined in spite of this

have great counselor and teacher recs...I have an interesting essay topic (my hearing loss and working through it to become accomplished in music)

I was able to view my teacher recs as well (WITH my teachers' permission of course)...they say that I did a fair amount of growing up my junior year, as shown in my grades (they dropped the first semester because I was a lazy slacker up until the end of 1st semester junior year and up until that point, could get mostly A's without trying; but the grades came back up 2nd semester because I started putting forth a lot more effort into school).

Oh and I'm applying to Columbia College...I want to be a premed there.

it's good you have teachers explain your dip in grades.

your chances are decent, CC premed isn't an easy thing to do, i think you have a better chance ED, SATs are good, your ECs are decent. you're really in the grey area, you're good all round, nothing outstanding, that's probably why you've gotten few replies, you chances are difficult to guage, you are neither in or out, and you have a good chance.

I wish I could apply ED...:(

why can't you?

money issues.

^money issues? they don't give you less FA if you do ED, and you are allowed to turn down ED if they don't compensate you enough, you only won't be able to compare FA packages across colleges.

"you only won't be able to compare FA packages across colleges."

which is why people who need financial aid don't do ED. If you can't compare financial aid offers, what counts as "enough" financial aid is then left at the discretion of one college you applied to ED and is thus not a smart option for people who are trying to get the most afforadable deal possible. Sad truth...I know.

^in my limited scope of experience, i've met several ed kids with whopping FA packages, full aid that was needed was met.

I'm glad it worked out for them. But, unfortunately, it really doesn't happen all that often.

Am I correct that you're an applicant? You don't "know." If you don't know that Columbia screws over ED admits for finaid, stop making up that it does.

Columbia2002: No I am NOT an applicant. Please stop making assumptions about me. I'm saying this out of what I have seen some of my friends who have already gone off to college, go through a similar experience. Granted, not ALL of them had that problem with COLUMBIA, but it was with schools with similar caliber such as Yale. Now Columbia did recently dramatically improve its financial aid program by establishing a no-loan policy for people below a certain cut-off line, but for people who aren't that poor and still have trouble affording college, the financial obstacle remains. This is just advice from someone who is trying to help. I'm NOT saying that this is some ultimate truth or anything and I'm NOT saying that the OP is definitely not going to get her/his financial aid needs met by Columbia b/c she/he applies ED. All I'm saying is that I understand that it's a reasonable concern for her/him to have. You can now reply back with whatever you want to say about me...I honestly could care less.
