“In many classes, the only way to get an A is to put your head down, regularly kowtow, mindlessly chug numbers, and do what Asians who apply to top colleges seemingly do best. I know tons of Asian people who are individualistic, intellectually engaging, and clearly compelling people. None of them have good grades, because you just don’t get that if you act like the above.”

When I saw Ray’s quote, I wanted to gag from the sheer ignorance. But now that it’s in context, it sounds a little bit more reasonable. But keep in mind that not all classes across the nation force everyone who wants an A to become a “textureless math grind.” That’s why cool, hot, smart asians end up at Yale :]

Every year with a new freshman class coming in, I see more and more not-stereotypical asians ready to tackle college admissions. Or at least in my area. There is currently a skewed trend but I’m sure it won’t be for long.

Honestly, will people stop bumping this thread?

We get that some of you Asians out there have an inferiority complex, even if the negative stereotypes don’t apply to all of you.

Now let it die. I suggest locking this thread if discussion continues beyond this point. There is simply nothing more that is substantial to discuss on this topic.

This kind of victim ■■■■■■■■ really disgusts me. The idea that there is a massive push to maintain “subjective” qualities on college applications in order to keep the number of asian applicants down is nuts. In addition, the New Haven fire department actually THREW OUT the testing results after no black firefighters passed, so the idea that firehouses tend to use tests in a racist manner is directly contradicted by the evidence YOU brought up.

This country, the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, is very racist towards Asian Americans. Get used to it if you don’t want to get off your lazy ass and make a difference.

awwww. khaki, did you have to change your major just because you couldnt stand the heat in the math department? I’m so sorry… I speak on the behalf of all Asians. There, now you can s.t.f.u. already.

Oh, I completely agree. I remember on the news the other day, they were lynching Asians in Texas. A week before that, Ohio announced a bill they were passing banning Asians from voting. And now Yale refuses to admit them.

So… what exactly do you mean by “excess”? Who gets to judge what is considered an “excess”? If you have “too many” Asians, does that mean something bad will happen, like, the school will get infested or something?

Just because some Asians take an interest in math doesn’t mean they are obsessed with the subject. I sure hope that when you attend Yale you’ll realize that not every Asian student spends their days and nights in the math department…what does that have to do with anything in the first place?

How did a racist like him get in yale anyway?
I like math because it’s very logic oriented, and connects with philosophy. It helps us understand the world, and what reality truly is. Is that really so shallow?
