I wonder how much Ronnie Chan is giving to USC

http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/article/1593477/ronnie-chan-chichungs-donations-university-second-week

I have no clue how large the amount will be, but the article makes it sound like it will be huge. It could be the $220m anonymous donation mentioned in this article. <a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?. .

My bet is that it will go to Keck to fund the hospital expansion.

My guess is that its not the anonymous donation. The Chan brothers are being quite vocal about this philanthropy as it relates to being an example of giving emanating from Hong Kong. The Harvard donation from his brother is very public – the Public Health school there is being renamed after their father. Which means this gift would be in addition to that $220 million. Extraordinary if true.

My dream scenario (but plausible given their giving to date) is that they would replicate to USC the $365M donation that they gave to Harvard. I suspect ModernMan is on to something re: Keck Medicine. There’s a major address at the Health Campus planned for October from Nikias. Would be hard to keep things under wraps that long now that the Chans have talked about their giving publicly.

@travelbot can you provide the a link to the October announcement?

Spoke too soon. The donation is announced. It is $20 million which is going to the Occupational Therapy program to rename is after his mother, the “USC Mrs. T.H. Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy”. This is a let down, but I thank him for his donation.

BTW, Ronnie’s son attended the program and has been ranked #1 for 12 years in a row.

<a href=“Chan family gift creates first named, endowed occupational therapy program in nation - USC News”>http://news.usc.edu/68517/occupational-therapy-program-receives-naming-gift-from-chans/

I’ll look for the October info and post what I can find.

Funny how $20M looks compared to 300M+ Its still ridiculously generous! In any case, you never know if he’s got something else up his sleeve. Who says he wouldn’t make two big gifts separately?! There I go again, setting expectations.
