I would like to become a copywriter.

I have a couple of questions.
What should I look for in a college I really want to got to but it also does not have and Advertising major?
Also, from what I have researched getting a career in advertising seems very daunting. What would be a good plan B for other job opportunities that are similar but more accessible than being a copywriter?
Any advice would be great.

Copywriters are employed at far more types of companies than just Ad agencies. Any consumer goods company will have copywriters to write package copy, product positioning, sales and trade materials, brochures, some ad copy etc. PR firms and magazines also employ copywriters. An English major, perhaps with an emphasis in creative writing is a good background. No need to have a major in advertising

Anything with lots of writing in it. English is an easy example, but other humanities and social sciences majors like philosophy, history, anthropology, political science, sociology, or economics could be good choices too. Psychology can be another good choice for marketing - less writing than some of the other social science majors, but marketing is basically an application of psychology.

There are lots of careers that involve communication and writing.
