I would like to know of my chances of getting into Ivy Leagues schools, LACs..

Hello, I would any suggestions by anyone of my statistics of getting into the Ivy League school, liberal arts colleges, and a few state schools. The schools I am looking at are the following: Vanderbilt,Rhodes College, Univ. of Memphis, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Univ. of Tenn.-Knoxville, Univ. of Tenn.-Chattanooga, Morehouse College, Yale, Harvard, Amherst, Brown, University of Virginia, Xavier University of Louisiana, Howard University, Sewanee:The University of The South, St. Johns University, and Fisk.

I have a 3.7 gpa and I am an African American student who is low-income. I have a 23 on the ACT currently but I am retaking the ACT in Feb. I am also a senior in high school so I know that is going to have some chances on my stats. However, I am working towards a 32 on the ACT and a 2480 on the SAT. I am taking Dual Enrollment courses and have 61 college credits and this semester I earned Dean's List with a 3.62 gpa. I am graduating in the spring with an Associate's Degree in General Studies because I plan to transfer my credits and enter as an advanced freshmen. In addition, I am Vice President of the debate club, volunteer teaching piano lessons to inner city youth, and serve as an assistant Sunday school teacher on Sundays. I don't have much time to volunteer but I have accumulated over 1000 hours of volunteer work and have been awarded. I am also involved in about 5 community, academic, and/or civic organizations..

So do I have a chance to get into most of my schools if my ACT score is reached because that's the only thing that is holding me back. Thanks in advance for helping me.

2480 SAT eh?

I would try the Chances forum.

If you make a 32 on the ACT test or a 2480 SAT, I say you have a reasonable chance at any of those schools, given you have some decent exrta curriculars..

I hope you achieve those scores! Good Luck!

thanks gocubsgo89 for the encouragement and you sure know the best baseball team :) thanks.

don't you mean a 2380?

I don't know emmy5 that was a guess..

You 'guessed' what SAT score you want? A 2400 is the highest possible score, so I don't think a 2480 is going to happen any time soon.

If you want Ivy's/LAC's I'd try and shoot for at least a 2100 or 2150. A 32 is also good for those level schools as well, but be forewarned, a 9 point jump on the ACT is a LOT.

oh my bad i meant a 2280 but i don't know if that's a 32 or not ACT-wise

Yeah, I second simpson. Going from a 23 to a 32 is.. eh. A more reasonable goal would be 28, which is good for a lot of decent schools.

23->32? Wow. Don't want to dash your dreams, but I haven't seen such a large jump. The largest jump I saw was 33->35. Yes, it will hurt you, but your background (african-american, low income) should help a lot. I don't see you getting into an Ivy, but with a higher ACT, who knows? Best of luck!
