My daughter received her admissions package today after two weeks ago being accepted for the Fall of 2013. To my surprise there was a separate letter addressed to "the parents of...". It was from the Innovations Academy director and it congratulated us on her admission to IA. This was news to us as everything that we have read welcomed her into the Fall 2013 Freshman Class. When she opened the main envelope it discussed the option of choosing to attend IA as she had indicated an interest in learning more about IA despite choosing Fall as her preference. Thankfully, the additional letter was apparently simply an "if needed" addition, therefore.

So far we have paid the initial $200 tuition deposit and the $200 housing deposit both with the designation "Fall 2013". My guess is that if we do nothing further her admission is simply confirmed for Fall. Thoughts?

Did she indicate an interest in IA? There were some students who were admitted summer/fall who also indicated IA and can be switched to that program if it is their preferred admission point.

Yes, we think that is what it means. That she would have the option of IA. However, her enrollment deposit and housing online already welcome her to the “Fall 2013 Freshman Class.” So it appears that it has been determined. It is a little odd that they would send a welcome letter to something that was only an option, however.

Admissions admitted students in fall, summer b. and IA till they filled up all terms. Specifically for IA, when they accepted all the students, they filled up IA until they couldn’t no more. The remainder would get put into fall/summer b (whatever has space), but a small select of that remainder would be given the option of BOTH. now WHO that small select is, I don’t know. Maybe the cream of the crop of the remainder? I don’t know, but now I’m starting to step into that speculation zone, so ill stop here lol

So do you agree that if her online checklist and acceptance info states “Fall 2013”, she is set and the option of IA is therefore now irrelevant? Or should I try to call Admissions? My daughter is so thrilled to be attending UF, I just don’t want anything to go wrong at this point.

The same thing happened to me. Accepted Fall 2013, but I indicated an interest in IA. Yesterday, I received the letter from IA congratulating me. I was in a panic, because when I had chosen an interest in IA (indicating my preferred term as Fall), I mistook it for the honours program. I was in a panic because I’ve read that most students accepted to IA must go there rather than being a traditional student. My GatorLink says I was admitted Fall of 2013. Immediately called admissions, and they said I have the choice of being a traditional student or choosing IA. Hope this answers your question, as the scenario seems to be the same as my own. If your GatorLink says you were admitted for the Fall Freshmen Class of 2017 and you received a letter saying you’re in for IA, you have a choice.
