ib, average grades

i am a member of the IB diploma programme , however my grades aren't great.

how will this affect my admission process and what types of schools will i be able to get into?

Hey I do the IB as well, what are your IB scores so far? And for the US the IB points aren't as of a crucial factor as they are when you apply to somewhere like UK...where IB is more recognized. In the US the SAT is weighed a lot along with GPA, IB you can simply just get credits for like AP

What exactly are your grades?

I've seen no eevidence that schools give any more weight to IB classes than to AP classes. Everything I've seen also indicates that one's gpa and scores are more important than whether or not one is in an IB program.

Without knowing your gpa and scores, one can't say what kind of schools you may be able to get into.

Exactly, there is no real evidence saying which cirriculum is weighed more, its just a matter of getting credits, the only college I heard of that weighs IB like crazy is some obscure one out in Nebraska....but post up your stats, only then we can give advice

well as i am a rising senior i have only taken 2 SL exams, both receiving 4's. but my question wasn't so much those scores. they were my grades. i have a weighted gpa of about 4.2--i heard somewhere that that indicates that yes, my grades aren't great, but i'm in hard classes, and that if i were in the next level down of classes, my grades would be higher. is there any truth to that? my high school does not have a class rank system anymore--everything is based on the weighted GPA system.

Im about to be an IB senior in Germany, and we dont have class rank either, and i was only given my weighted GPA as well....here...list your HLs and SLs...only then i can give you some advice...but getting 4s on SL exams are not impressive

HL's are Psychology, Euro, and English

the SL tests i took were Spanish and Chemistry. To prepare for the chem SL test we looked at previous tests with our teacher, and all the previous tests were so very similar. However, the test we took this year was a huge shock. Even my teacher added when he saw a copy of this year's test that it was the most difficult test he's ever seen, and this guy worked for NASA! As far as the spanish i know it isn't great, however in our schoool you are expected to get a 4 if SL-ing after one year, and a 6 or 7 if SL-ing after two years. That's pretty much how it always is in our school, i just did not feel like taking spanish next year.

This leaves my last SL as discrete math.

Besides, is it not true that SLs barely matter?

alright um...

what you wanna study in college?

and how many points did you get last semester junior year?

SLs matter at some places, but they do add up to the total points...and are you planning on IVY or just another kind? i think most colleges only give credits to 5+ on HL exams

yes most universities only give credit to HL 5+ and some 6 +

i have two different things i wanna study--either psychology or something to do with marketing or PR

i'm not planning on Ivy. The schools i am looking at are BC, Northeastern, Trinity College, The College of New Jersey, Villanova, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, Loyola Maryland, and GWU

and i do not understand what you are asking about points?

Well if you're not planning on IVY then this is all I can give you on advice, get the SAT scores required for those colleges and have ECs and good gpa....and yea good application....and for IB...just try n get the credits...by points i mean by adding up how many youre relatively getting now (add the grades you got semester 2 overall)...just to get a rough idea where you stand....but yea man...IB scores arent as significant as are SAT n GPA in the US

thanks for your help. are you looking to attend school in Europe or US?

Both...in Europe im looking at UK and in US anywhere, possibly IVY, yet i have to improve my SAT score first...

i do too. cutting it kind of close but it happens. best of luck to you, i kinda look forward to speaking to you once were through with these troubles and into somewhere! lets make a deal to keep each other updated

sure, if you have any other questions bout IB...lemme know...for now...the gay extended essay has to be complete

haha i did my rough draft and was about 3500. now i need to cut some out and add even more. what is your topic?

**** man...ive just gotten 1000 written, mines on chemistry yours?

same problem....low GPA....because of IB

yes! my GPA would have been SO Much high if i didn't involve myself in IB! that's whats annoying :-</p>

and mine is on architecture kind of-- i talk about the city of chicago before and after the great chicago fire of 1871 and relate it to the hurricane katrina and how they should rebuild it. i might variate from that slightly though

hey you guys, i have the same problem as you guys=P
i take the IB as well and because of it, my gpa is not that great=P and what sucks even more is that i got an unimpressive SAT score. this sucks
btw the extended essay..bleh
mine is on economics,
ah its nice to find other ppl with similar problems as me=)
