IB diploma chances at wharton

I just had a quick question, I am going to begin the IB diploma and this is to past participants, how well do you think taking the IB diploma over the AP courses affect your application so mainly was it for better or worse. thanks

Ya same question. Does IB give you an advantage over AP in terms of maybe class rigor or just getting into college?

There is probably not much of an advantage considering that many people do not have access to an IB program so it would be unfair to give a lot more credit to people that do. Just take the most rigorous schedule that you can. That will matter more than the AP or IB designation.

IB is a crapload harder than AP. I think it just tends to help for admission.

If you're an IB diploma candidate, your counselor will mark your courseload as "most rigorous" no matter what. However, you still need a competitive GPA.

thanks for all the current help however the thing is I really need the IB Diploma to cause my freshman and sophmore years (3.15s) are terrible while my IB years are stellar 4.0 unweighted and this gives me the ability to get around a 3.6 maxx by time I apply for wharton so I really need to know how they asses IB candidates. The thing that I hope will really boost my application is that I have a swimming record close to olympic time, wrote articles for a national newspaper and TASP, so Im really counting on those.

In general, you should take the most rigorous curriculum available to you. Are admissions officers familiar with the challenging IB Diploma program, and do they know that candidates who graduate with good grades from this program are often very well prepared for university? Definitely. Would the mere fact of taking the IB give you a significant advantage over other candidates, particularly those who do AP or other well-regarded programs (A-levels, etc.)? Not much. In the end, all applicants are assessed individually.

I believe that I am taking the most rigourous courses in school, however I don't know if any of the adcoms know too much about IB and though it is growing quickly in the US it is still a very unknown program throughout the country most kids in schools dont even know what it is. Do you think it would be wise to contact wharton/upenn to ask them how they view the program?

The thing is that i don't want to be rude and I know all you who take AP's work really hard and sacrifice a lot doing your courses but while the IB diploma and A levels are pretty much on par AP's are really not to hard iin comparisons, like in my friends school for instanct the kids did somes AP's and IB courses and they got 5/5's for APs however 3-5/7 on the IB courses and without a doubt the IB courseload is so much more as already a couple of people on this forum have agreed.

The adcoms definitely know the IB and its rigor. Don't worry!

Wait, are you a TASPer?! I honestly haven't found any other TASPers at Penn (few are genuinely interested).

<-- Cornell TASP 06 :]

I do not currently go to Penn yet I am trying to get accepted. I find TASP courses very unique and cornell is beautiful

Oh wait, you're a rising junior, which means you're not in TASP yet. Why did you include TASP in your list of qualifications?
