IB diploma not awarded

Hey everyone. So as some of you may know, IB results came out today and I checked mine. By lacking 1 point on one of my HLs, I have failed to get the IB diploma. I was a diploma candidate and U of R obviously knows that and my IB results are being sent. Now, my only concern is that my IB results may potentially jeopardize my admission. Will it? I'm fully aware that US universities aren't too concerned with the IB as much as European schools. I have also called the admissions office a while ago and asked them regarding this matter and they said most likely not, which was quite a relief. I have also read on one of UCLA's CC threads posted by a student who had a similar problem as myself and it states that "If your school assigns grades for the course regardless of whether you take or pass the corresponding IB exam, and if your school issues a high school diploma that is not contingent upon the earning of an IB diploma, then your scores on the IB exams will not affect your admission." In other words, regardless of getting the diploma, your IB scores are only used for college credits and it will NOT affect your admission. Is this the case in U of R? I really hope it is. Thanks for reading.

The admissions office already told you likely not. I’d take that as meaning “unless you really screwed up your last semester and got a bunch of horrible grades.”

Yeah, I actually got a higher GPA on my last semester than average. It’s just the IB that I screwed up. So should I not be too worried about it?

The US colleges only want to see your graduation transcript from your high school. If they have issued your final transcript, then you should be ok.

Well they’re also seeing my IB result and I’m just worried that the fact that I didn’t get the IB diploma would make me look bad.

So you look bad. Big deal.

You’re missing the point. The consequences of looking bad is the “big deal”. If you’re so sure that it’s not going to affect my admission, then good I’m happy with that.

The job of Admissions at Rochester or any school is to manage the admissions process and admit students. Once you are admitted and all your required paperwork is in place, they have no further responsibility or interest in your life as a student for the most part. You will be assigned an advisor during Orientation to assist with freshman year registration and understanding overall University requirements. Once you declare your major, only your department is concerned with your progress as a student. If you are concerned about “looking bad” to the random person who is filing this information or updating your student records, it is likely going to be a student working in admissions office during the summer so I wouldn’t be overly concerned about it.

Best reply I have gotten so far. That is a huge relief. Thank you, I’ll stop worrying about it.
