IB Math SL sufficient for SAT Math Level 2?

Hey all.

I'm going to be a junior next year, and I will be taking IB Math SL 1 (I took Algebra 2 and Trig Honors this year). I'm also planning on taking the Math Level 2 Subject Test next year. I've heard that the Math Level 2 test is primarily pre-calculus, but I've also heard that pre-calc is only covered in IB Math HL and not in SL? So for those of you knowledgeable about IB, my question is: is the material learned in IB Math SL 1 class sufficient for the Math Level 2 test? If not, can I fill in the blanks not covered in IB Math SL 1 by reading through Barron's and other prep books? Or would you completely not recommend taking the Math Level 2 test? Any help is appreciated!

Pre-calc is in both SL and HL. There is a significant overlap between what Math II tests and what appears in both Math SL and HL.

Whoa, thanks for the quick response! I think I’m all set then.

That’s only if your Math SL 1 class covers all the pre-calc in Math SL. You should find out whether pre-calc is completely covered in Math SL 1.

Sometimes teachers like to push all the pre-calc to the end/right before the test because they figure you already know it. You don’t want to complete Math SL 1 and then find out that all the pre-calc will be covered in Math SL 2.
