i'm only a sophomore in the program, and i know it's way easy compared to the next two years, but am i the only one in ib kind of underwhelmed? all my friends seem to drown in homework each night and i nap through classes and i'm getting my homework done in between. is anyone else here in the international baccalaureate program? what are your thoughts and what classes do you have?

Sophomore IB year is pretty easy. So is Junior Year. Senior Year is where you get swamped with work because not only are you getting homework daily, but you also get multiple papers (Internal Assessments, Extended Essay, Oral Commentaries/Presentations, etc.) while you also have to get CAS hours, participate in extracurriculurs, etc.

So enjoy the relative chill classes you have now. :)

Our IB program is only jr and sr year.

Yea, ours is only Jr and Sr year..and surprisingly, senior year has been waaaay more stressful than Junior year. I've had barely any free time. I don't get it...senior year is supposed to be a bit more enjoyable, even for an IB student (at least until exam time...)

Anyone else think their senior year is actually their most stressful, busy year yet?

Yes, senior year is killing me right now. Especially ToK which sucks because I have talked to people at other schools who say it is the easiest class they have ever taken.

Sophomore year IB (technically Pre-IB) is the easiest thing in the world.

Then.. Junior and Senior years of hell.

Junior year is a bit overwhelming on its own. Psychology Internal Assessment, English Oral Commentary, etc. Senior year i heard is much harder at our school. Which sucks.

My TOK class is a study hall...unless we are meditating...lol

The only time we have ever worked is for the essay and oral presentation...

Don't join IB. Just DON'T. I am a second semester senior who has been in the IB program for 4 years and ours is relatively easy compared to others yet it is still hard and annoying and most of all UNneccessary.

AP = IB in colleges eyes.
AP = MUCH MUCH less work, easier.

Do AP. You will thank me.

I'd only say IB if you want to go to school outside of the U.S.

My school's IB program is ridiculously easy. Some of it depends on the school.

don't listen to ent0py...IB prepares you more on for college. You will be a lot more accelerated in college and definitely have the mindset to go above and beyond multiple choice fill in the blank BS...but yeah at my school IB is for juniors/seniors who complain about it being really hard. But its honestly very different for every student. Each person makes their struggles their own so what's hard for one is easy for another. I'm a sophomore right now in MYP, but Im positive I will be a diploma candidate and everything. This year has been tough, especially with Government but with extra effort and a good work ethic anyone can do it.

My pre-IB year, I only had a few technically pre-IB classes. The full program didn't really come in until junior year, and things definitely got ten times harder or more challenging, however you want to see it. I don't really know how AP and IB compare, but my school doesn't really offer AP - so I chose to be full IB knowing I'd need the challenge. I'm at the top of my class and always have been. Have I felt underwhelmed at my school before? Yes. Do I now, as a senior? Absolutely not. I do tend to put a lot of the pressure on myself though. Junior year was pretty straightforward until fourth quarter, which was hell. I thought that was the hardest part, but senior year has been worse (I did the musical in the fall. Bad idea.) I've adapted though, especially now that college apps are mostly done. And ToK as a study hall? Craziness. ToK was my hardest grade junior year, though probably the most interesting class. So much depends on the school, I guess.

ToK in my school is given to us instead of advisory. It's a lot of work.

i wish i had stuck with a cool subject to take for my sixth area next year. as much as i love psychology, i wanted to do economics but took pre-ib art thinking that was going ot be my track. i switched out of a full joke of a photography class, and tried to get pre-ib economics. got stuck with law studies. which is ok. there was the option of music too but music theory bores me no matter how much i love band. what are your sixth areas?

My senior year in my IB is actually rather easier than my junior year. My teachers got a lot of our internal assessments out of the way last year, so we haven't been swamped with those. The only major thing this year was the EE, and I'm done with that now. Our CAS was also due about 2 weeks ago, so that's technically done as well. The only major things left are my TOK essay, TOK oral presentation, and my second maths portfolio.

But yeah. Sophomore year before doing the IB was really easy. It gets a lot, lot harder once you actually start.

For my elective (group 6) I'm taking chemistry.

There are perks to being IB at my school. A) Less people in classes, so teachers are really nice... especially about deadlines. B) We're the select group, sometimes viewed higher than AP Students. C) If you're full IB, you can still take the corresponding AP exam. This last one is very important if you want to exempt things because if you're AP there is relatively no point in doing a certificate IB test (it's unheard of, don't even know if you can), but as an IB student, you can still have an AP test to fall back on if you aren't going to do good on the IB one.

Pre-IB sophomore year was easy!!! lol. Junior year is hell. I think it's cuz our 2nd quarter (which had all of our IAs in every class) was only 6 weeks. Stick it out. It's worth it.
