IB score

Hello.

I am an international junior IB student planning on majoring in an individualised study circling around philosophy, human rights, communication and a bit of other human sciences.

Right now for my HLs, I got
A+ (7) in economics,
A (6) in history
-A (high 5, teacher expecting me to get a 6) in English literature

So they are pretty good.

However, I got a low 4 (around C?) in math SL. Will this affect my entire chance of getting into the uni I want? I am really looking at NYU Gallatin. I also know that what I want to study does not circle around math. I just cannot do math but I try really hard.

I have solid ECs and leadership. I am also confident that my essay will truly show why I will be the right fit for NYU Gallatin. So I put my hopes in my essay, ECs and my higher level subjects. But math is SO low.

I am also confident that I will get good bonus points for TOK and EE (history EE) as I am getting great feedbacks.

Thanks!

Hey man,

Senior IB student here taking his finals starting from tomorrow :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways that impressive, a 6 in history and 7 in econ HL is very good. Keep it up. Try to pull up your English grade, trust me practicing paper 1s and 2s is what makes all the difference in the end.

As for math, if you struggled in SL then studies wouldve been a more proper choice. Depending on your major in the future yes a bad math SL score will look bad. So your best choice is to search if your major needs math SL, if not drop to studies and get the 7. Taking pre-med and decided getting a higher IB score is better hence chose studies.

NYU should accept you with a 37-40 IB score. So try to maintain a high predicted

Cheers

Thanks for your comments. Would Math Studies not look rather less rigorous on college app? I was indeed thinking of taking studies though.
