Hello i am a high school junior and i study in Kenya, Africa. I am doing the IB system and i am indian. These are my grades and their IB score:-
Math-A /7
Chemistry-B+/6
History-C+/5
Biology-B/5
Spanish-B+/6
English-B+/6

I am in the following clubs:-
students for the environment
Habitat for Humanity
Interact club

I started an Environment club in the Middle school and i am going to do an internship in the UNEP over summer.

I am a part of the track and field team. I have been in the track team for over a year now. I also took part in a international school meet which took place in Cairo.

I still have not done the SATs I'm taking it on Jan 22nd. Right now on my practice tests i have a score of 1750 which is not a good score.

I want to pursue a career in Environmental Studies. The universities i want to apply to are:-
1.SUNY-ESF
2.UT
3.Santa barbara

What other universities do you'll think i should apply to and also PLEASE CHANCE ME. I want to know what are my chances of getting into these colleges. Also i would like to get some feedback, criticism.
Thank you.

Hello, fellow Indian! I am doing the IB diploma programme too at an international school in Belgium. 35 out of 42 is quite a good score, but if you want the top colleges, you’ll need to improve your SAT score. Not that my own SAT score is terribly high. I have 2050 and an IB prediction of 41 out of 45. If you improve your SAT score, you might have a go at UNC Chapel Hill, Ohio State, Stony Brook, etc. Of course, I don’t know whether costs are a factor for you. If you’re applying to UT Austin I think you have a good chance because they like IB students and a 35 excluding bonus points is definitely competitive for UT. Try and improve your EC’s as well and take the subject tests. You have a 7 in math, so go for the math 1 or math 2 subject tests and chemistry. Most of the Chemistry tested in the subject tests have been covered in the IB diploma programme syllabus. So you’ll be fine there. Good luck!

I have already applied to all my choices. I have applied to various universities all around the world. I want to major in chemical engineering.

Colleges I’ve applied to (US):
Cornell
Cooper Union
U of Minnesota - Twin Cities
Boston University
Stony Brook
U of Buffalo (SUNY)
American Univ

Oh okay. Those seem to be some pretty good universities i think you can easily get into most of them. Cornell well they are harsh so i don’t know about that but the others i think you can get in easily.

Cornell I think I’ll probably get rejected cuz I have a critical reading score of 590 :S and Cooper Union has an acceptance rate of 8%, but it has a full tuition scholarship for all students, so it’s very selective. But it’s one of the best colleges for engineering in the US. it doesn’t feature in the rankings cuz it only provides art, architecture and engineering courses and cuz it only has degrees upto masters level. Minnesota is sort of my best fit for the US, cuz it’s ranked 4th for chem engg. The rest are just back-ups.

I think you should aim a bit higher too, but try for a range of colleges, so that if you get rejected from the good ones, you have back-ups to “back you up”.
