IB vs AP which is better?

I think AP is waaaay better than IB. Although most colleges don't prefer one to the other, AP is better prep for SAT IIs.

Well personally I prefer IB. The classes are waay less cut throat.

Also, if you look at the wide spectrum of students applying to Colleges Im sure that IB will be seen as something MUCH more unique than the thousands of applicatnts doing AP.

zorro u must be kidding… IB is much more cutthroat…

FACT: IB and AP classes are at a similar level… difference in IB program is that u have to do extra stuff like the extended essay, TOK and CAS hours. They are quite similar … and yes IB is much more unique so pick that but let me tell u as an IB student… the hours are going to be long so if you do not have a good work ethic and are just relying on your smarts… this program is not for you.

Which was created first? IB or AP? It seems to me IB is trying too hard to be different. I mean, come on, rating a test out of 7? And some IB classes are 3 out of 4 quarters long.

IB founded in 1968. AP founded in 1955. My D and I share a screen name. But my D is also a WI resident omgitsgeorglopez. Good luck to the Cheeseheads. Mrs. Bluehouse

what is so weird about 7. The SAT is scored from 2400

The reason why IB is so much rarer than AP is simply because far less schools admisnister the program. My school only has AP, no IB. While having IB might make you more “unique”, it is unlikely that colleges will give much weight to that, because they know that many students dont have the chance to take IB classes. You’re always judged primarily on the context of your school and the classes it offers.

Sorry I didn’t clarify this.

IB is much less cut throat at MY particular school. Really you should research your school and find which teachers and classes you would prefer taking. It really depends on the school and your particular learning style/interests.

Yeah, I really like the AP program…it doesn’t have all that extra work that IB does…but you still learn a whoooole lot.

I have some friends doing IB (my school doesnt offer it) at other places and they have SO much more work than I do…but it’s not like they’re learning more. I learn just as much and and get more time to focus on ECs and other things I enjoy doing.

I would like to try IB though…just to really experience what it’s like…

IB’s english and history (aka THE ARTS) has a higher focus than the AP (lang arts and hist.). I’ve noticed.

The sciences and math, however, seem to be harder on the AP side. Precalculus here is known as IB Math SL I. (Woot!)

AlsoAlso, to be an AP scholar you need to have several-thousand word essay and volunteer work hours as well, so it balances out.

The reason AP can be better than IB is that for a good deal of colleges, Standard Level (SL) classes don’t really count for anything. They tend to give credit only to HL classes, which require two years of study, and I find it absolutely ludicrous that my IB Chemistry SL class is negated in contrast to the equally if not less difficult AP Chemistry class. (AP Chemistry is focused to 1st year chemistry students, while IB Chemistry requires an A in 1st year chemistry)

This forces me to take the IB Class but take the AP test, which is different enough to throw me off. You need a 4~5 to get credits on the AP test, while you need a 6~7 to get credits on the IB HL test.

Baw.
