IB vs AP

I have a lot of friends that are enrolled in the program. They seem to take a lot of pride in them and act like they are vastly superior to AP students. They always complain about their workload and how the AP kids have it easier than them.

I don't know whether or not IB is harder or vice versa because from where I am from, you could only choose 1. But the question is: Why do college accept AP credits but not IB credits unless it is HL? And most people only take IB SL... If IB is so difficult, why is AP more recognize than it?

IB is seen equally to AP at top colleges. It’s generally agreed that IB is marginally harder than AP, but it definitely depends on the individual’s coursework. Just because something is more difficult doesn’t mean that it’s going to get more recognition. AP is more recognized in the U.S. since it has been integrated into schools for a longer time.
