Ideas for Common App Essay Prompts

Im trying to come up with ideas for either the prompt with failure or the time I challenged a belief.
Would it be vague if i used my phobia for failure?
Would mentioning my teachers believing I was capable of achieving more but my self deprecation allowed me to challenge the idea that i really could be suitable for the essay with challenging a belief? Or does it need to be an idea/belief challenged socially?

On the phobia note, it really depends on what you mean. If you’re standing up to it, it would be interesting to approach it from the “challenging a belief” angle - challenging your own belief.

Usually, you want to use a positive subject about how you overcame obstacles for the belief essay. So, in your case, I thin kit would be more appropriate if you wrote about how none of your teachers believed you were capable of achieving more, but you challenged their beliefs and did exactly that! Does that make sense?

You could write an interesting essay with what you suggested, but know that your essay has to be POSITIVE. Also, you run the risk of sounding like a whiny teenager lacking self-confidence - 99% of college applicants are exactly that, but you need to portray yourself as being a confident, self-sufficient adult in your essay.

I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!
