My identical twin brother is going to be a freshman at Dartmouth next year, while I have decided to attend a top-15 non-Ivy. I am very excited about matriculating to this school, but I am worried that I might decide this year that I wish I were attending the same college as my brother. I know that I shouldn’t already be thinking about the possibility of doing this, but if I do in fact decide that I want to apply to Dartmouth as a sophomore transfer, would my odds be any different due to my identical twin? Considering that Ivies tend to accept transfer students who they think will benefit the most from a change in academic institutions (such as students who currently attend community colleges), will they view my application as insincere due to the fact that I already go to a good college, and the only reason for applying as a transfer would seemingly be the fact that I want to be reunited with my identical twin? Thanks in advance for all your responses.
No one will be able to predict this for you. This year there were 800 candidates for transfer. 20 were admitted.
Did you apply to Dartmouth this year?
I know that it could be challenging leaving your twin. You have both decided to attend different schools. You stated that you are excited about attending your school- focus on that. Have a great time and create your experiences separate from your brother.
Transfer admission is consdierably harder than freshmen admissions. I am guessing you have stellar high school grades, tests scores, and extracurriculars since you got into a top 15 school. It you keep it up and have a good GPA, I think you will have a decent shot. I think you should have a more legitimate reason than because you’ll miss your twin sister.
Also I think it is premature to even think about this. Give your school a chance and see how it goes. Who knows, being apart from your twin and developing as an individual might even be best for you.
