My parents and I are having trouble filling out the IDOC. My father is self-employed and while he does not officially own a business, he still takes out business expenses for various work-related items. What my family and I are wondering is whether or not we still have to file a Business/Farm Supplement, given that he has marked these expenses.

I was in the same situation this year. From what I understand, income earned while self-employed counts as a business. If your father filed a schedule C tax return, then yes.

I have a problem with that as well - my parents own (or partially own) over 20 tiny corporations – many of them don’t generate any revenue. Are they supposed to fill out 20 forms???

Although I suppose we missed the deadline :(
