My father works for a Plumbing Company. That company gives my dad projects to complete and pays him. My father contracts 2 other workers who he pays. So, my father is like a sub-contractor. He does not own a business but he does file the Schedule C when he completes the tax returns. Should he fill out the Business/Farm Supplement. It is very difficult because he owns nothing yet his tax returns say that he is the owner of a company. Please help...

It is likely he should fill out the business supplement. He needs to document where his income comes from and if he sub-contracts then that needs to be documented

You should check with the financial aid office

So should he say that he owns 100% of the company? He is simply a sub-contractor and the C Schedule tells where his income comes from... I am very confused

Whay not call the college finaid office and ask an officer there. If he doesn't own a company,it seems to me you should not fill out business and farm supplement.
Just ask an expert and you will know for sure

Yes, you will need to fill out a business/farm supplement. We just had to do the same thing. It's not that bad for a schedule C where you don't own anything.

The back of the form is going to probably be all zeros, with a signature and explanation that he's a contractor.

The front of the form can be filled out very easily from the Schedule C.
