So I just realized that 5 or 6 of my schools have financial aid deadlines of February first. They all require tax forms to be sent through IDOC.

I'm confused.

How do I get an IDOC ID number? Will I be able to make the Feb. 1st deadline?

Do I have to send tax forms to IDOC for all my schools separately?

attach a signed copy of your 2007 taxes (this is why it is important for your family to atleast have them filed, they will still have until april 15th to make any payments to the IRS)

make a copy for your records

repeat process for each school that is requesting IDOC information (I think each school has their own cover sheet).
mail the forms to IDOC

While most of the colleges we have applied to have Feb 1 deadlines for the FAFSA and Profile, their deadlines for tax forms are later. One requires tax forms by Feb 1, but will take 2006 forms, which is good because we will not even have all our 2007 information by then. I know this will vary by college, but you may have a little more time on the tax forms. I haven't even ventured to the IDOC website yet, I'm still working on gathering information for the FAFSA. it is turning into more of a job than I expected!

Ok, so I just went to the IDOC website and saw this message: IDOC is only available to students that participating colleges and programs select and the College Board notifies for participation. Do not enter the site unless the College Board notified you that at least one of your colleges or programs participates in the IDOC Service.

So were you notified by college board that you needed to submit anything through IDOC? If not, they may not have your ss# on file.

I believe you need to register with the College Board and fill out the Profile BEFORE you can deal with IDOC.

When we did it (a couple of years ago)...we only sent one cover sheet, and one set of returns and documents...and indicated two schools to receive the information...or at least that is my feeble recollection of the process. IDOC documentation deadline was MUCH later (for us) than the Profile filing deadline.

BTW...I've heard IDOC referred to by saying the sounds of the letters..I (short vowel sound), D, O, C....get it? I agree...but that's how I feel about the College Board in general:)

I'm registered with Collegeboard...and I filled out the Profile back in October for my Early Action school. (I was deferred, so now I'm scrambling to send in financial aid stuff for quite a few schools...)

....was just at the site. Tried to cutnpaste the words but lost them.

Anyway, the Profile site in small print at the end says IDOC stuff will be ready in early February (just a few days away).

If you've already filed your Profile with schools who require IDOC stuff, you will get an email telling you how to do the IDOC stuff, the site says.
