IDOC is “requiring” me to upload a custodial 1099 form but we do not file that. What should I do?
Worry not! My mother said she had one and I found it and uploaded it.
I apologize deeply for causing you to click this thread!
EDIT: While my mother files 1099, I, the student, do not, but it still wants it. What do I do???
I would think that everyone is asked for everything that they might possibly have - if you don’t have something, you wouldn’t upload it. But if it’s saying your info is incomplete without it, I suggest calling their help line and asking them to look at your account. Maybe you indicated somewhere that you had one?
My only concern is the wording–they are calling everything a “Document - Required by Institution(s)”.
I will call them and ask.
Also, is it acceptable if I upload my noncustodial father’s 2013 tax return if he has not yet completed his for 2014?
Maybe I’ll ask that too when I call. I will have to do so tomorrow though because they won’t pick up on Sunday.
A 1099 is not a form you file; It is a form you receive from a financial institution or as a result of receiving a pension, etc. This shows interest or dividends or payments received, or something similar. If you receive more than $10 from one of these entities, either you or your parents would have received this.
Ok, sorry.
I, the student, received no 1099 form but IDOC is “requiring” me, the student, to upload a 1099 form.
My parent received one and I, the student, uploaded it to IDOC.
Did you submit the non filer form ? If you are not required to file taxes, there is no need to submit a W2 or 1099.
yes
i understand there is no need to submit those items
However, IDOC “requires” me to upload them.
Do I just not upload them and they’ll get the idea?
I don’t think you need to upload them at all. I called one college today and they said not to upload what doesn’t apply. It will “make sense” when they see you don’t have income.
Ok, fair enough. I uploaded all of the other documents they wanted. While I work, those under 18 who don’t make more than $10,000/yr do not need to file a tax return. So I just filled the non-tax filers statement and gave my W-2s to “prove” what was on the form. Case closed!
There is no age limit for filing taxes, under 18 have to file if they earn enough, and for someone who can be claimed as a dependent on their parent’s taxes, the threshold for filing is earned income + $350, with a $6200 maximum.
This is not accurate.
Well I made under $6,100. Still does not apply to me.
I sure hope it isn’t.
