I had written my IELTS on 31st January 2009 using which I availed an admission in University of Glasgow.

Now I have shortlisted some uni's in USA and want to apply for PhD starting Fall 2011. Can I submit the same IELTS score or will I have to take it again?

The reason for my doubt is because the peculiar test date does not remain valid at the time the semester begins in Aug or September of 2011 but it does remain valid at the time I am applying or filing my applications which probably will be in mid October.(Hopefully!)

I do hope I get quick replies because in case I do need to submit a new score the next test date is 9th of October in the IELTS nearest center and I will not miss it for anything and do the booking asap!!

You should contact the US universities directly to answer this. Each one may have a different take and you should know before you miss the testing deadline.

The British Council states that the IELTS’ validity can be extended if the institution can confirm that the applicant is still maintaining his ability in the use of English.

Two of five universities I am applying to have confirmed that I can use the same score and no retest will be required on account of my studies and subsequent graduation within one year of the Fall 2011 semester from a UK based university.

I am awaiting replies from other 3 universities.
